new to this forum, long time reader here.

I recently build a new sig, fresh install and everything.

I don't know if this is a problem or not, but because I jump into any OC, I want to make sure I got the right temp before I do anything.

from what I read most people with X2 3800+, the temp reading is about 30-40 Idle, and mid 45-50 at full load.

However, my sig, the idle reading is at 44, and full load, it is about 53-55. not sure what is the deal in here. Also, I noticed that it takes a long time for the CPU to cool down, like after 1 hour of gaming, it will probably take a night to get back to 44C.

I also have a XP-120 with 120mm fan blowing down on it, and I have 2 80mm fans sucking in air. and I also have 2 80mm fans sucking in air from the side, and 2 80mm fans blowing out air on the back. I even touch the side of the case, it is pretty cool.

Oh in addition, I use AC5 on the CPU, and the MB temp reading is around 42, I even got a warning with probe II few time, when it hits 48C

not sure if it really matter or not, but the HDD is right next to the fans in the front.

Thanks in advance

What kind and how much thermal paste did you use when you installed the heatsink? It's really easy to use too much of this stuff, and then you don't get good heat conduction from the chip to the heat sink.

What are you using to monitor your temps? That does seem high for stock settings. My X2 3800 is OC'd to 2500 and reads 23C at idle and 52C under full load. This is with a stock HSF. I have an 80mm fan blowing out the top of my case and another 80mm bringing in air from the bottom front of the case.

I am using Asus probe 2 to monitor my temp, at idle, CPU at 44 and MB at 41, I have 2 80mm fans blowing air in the case in the front, then I have 2 80mm fans on the side panel blowing in air also, I have a 120mm fan to blow in air onto the CPU, and I have 2 80mm fans on the back of the case blowing air out of the case, and 1 80mm fan on top of the case along with PSU fan to blow the air out.

I think I figure it out the problem now, what happen was I chained 4 fans to one of those 2 pins fan connector from the PSU. and the all my fans are 12v with 4 pins, so I guess, the 2 pins fan connector doesn't have enough juice to push 4 12v case fans.

Now, I plugged all my fans to a regular 4 pin plug from the PSU, everything is going good now, 39C for CPU, 35 for MB, not the greatest, but it is much better than before. around 45C at full load. and it cools down alot faster too. :)

so what are those 2 pin plug for, it has a label on the wire said for case fan only. The plug does work if I only using 1 fan on that plug, anything more than that, it will not. Do I have a bad PSU?

Can't wait to start doing some OC :)

Plat,

I have a similar system but my idle temps are 28-30c, normal usage 30-34c, and I haven't seen my computer past the 40c mark under load. Your temps still seem high. Perhaps you should re-install your HSF again.

Your Sig seems fine, but usually I'd put the CPU first, Mobo second, RAM, Vid card, Sound card, Drives, Power Supply.

;) :D

Temps adon't seem too bad, but overclocking would probably change that in a hurry. You sure the Heatsink is on properly?
