Temp difference between cores on Opteron?

I just installed (say 3 hours ago) an Opteron 165 on a Biostar motherboard.

Using Core Temp v.94, at idle it's showing 28-30c for Core #0 and only 10-12C for Core #1.

Is that normal?

I don't have any dual core patches or anything installed yet, if that matters.

I wouldn't be surprised if Biostar MB is a bit suspect with their thermal sensors (they are a lower tier Manufacturer) - try Everest Ultimate edition and see if that gives you a different read - core temp is pretty good though

From reading this: "http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1125253&page=2&pp=20" it appears Core Temp measures from the CPU, not the Mobo. And that the temp sensors in K8's aren't the most accurate. Loading with SP2004 I was getting 40c/30c and with Everest is only showed me 27c for core #1 and 35c for CPU...which is and average between cores? It was the trial version so BUY ME kept popping up and it would only show some stuff.

Go into BIOS and check what the temps are at idle and the compare to core temp and everest - looks like it is in the low to mid 30s as where it should be when not overclocking and in the low40s at load - I think you are fine in any event
