Ive done some searching about this topic and found some interesting stuff.

just from opinion alone. do you think its possible to get someone to tell the truth, or to tell the truth in general while they are asleep?

I myself do believe that people do tell truth while sleeping. the brain is in sleep mode which therefore most likely is just ones thought's while sleeping. so when someone speaks during sleep, there commenting how they feel about a situation in there own head. My own opinion of course

No. When I'm asleep, I'm known to tell anyone that speaks to me any number of lies just to get them to shut up and leave me alone. Truth has no business in sleep.

Possible? Yes. Reliable? No, because the person could be dreaming about something completely different than what questions are being asked.

One of my ex's used to talk in her sleep, and I can tell you that without a doubt she was not telling the truth. In fact, most of what she would talk about could hardly be considered coherent thought / part of reality. To be nerdy here, it actually sounded like the Basestar chicks from BSG - just stream of consciousness. :p

My ex would talk about food and nice houses so sometimes when I notice it I'd ask her if she wants a sandwich and she'd nod. Next morning she would not remember the episode. Weird but funny.

I dunno. It makes enough sense that you have to make a conscious effort to lie, and so when you're sleeping you probably can't do that. BUT getting somebody to tell you what you want when they're still asleep isn't exactly easy... so I'm leaning on 'no'

maybe not tell you what you want. but tell you something that probaly came out of nowhere lol.. recently my gf told yelled in her sleep or the time between waking up from a deep sleep "why are you so fat" while im not fat...i could afford to lose a few pounds. i found it more funny than upsetting. because why would someone yell that opposed to anything else?
i know ive been told i speak very violently in my sleep..but i still want proof lol

I lie like a bastard in my dreams, so I don't know why I'd tell the truth talking in my sleep.

That is exactly how I am when I talk in my sleep. Your analogy is perfect. Random things that don't work together.

Bottom Line: Will I tell the truth in my sleep. Yup. Do I reliably tell truth in my sleep. Nope

I've been known to talk in my sleep but it's definitely incoherent. I think it'd be foolish to try to interpret some kind of "truth" from the gibberish.

Apparently I talk in my sleep, but it's not usually something that makes any sense. I know my dad does. When I'm living at home I can hear him at night. He likes to swear in his sleep a lot, usually at the dogs.
