Say if you went to his office hours, and you see him using 1024x768 on a 20" LCD that looks all blurry, would you let him know that he could get a much clearer picture by changing the res?

If only MS would fix the damned DPI settings to where they no longer break apps... it's been (over?) 15 years now.

Why the eff didn't Vista support vector fonts and objects? If they were going to go all hardware-accelerated, they should have done it RIGHT.

I always hear people say that, but I never had an issue with high dpi when using high resolutions. It always looked a helluva lot better to me than using low dpi and low res.

Btw, do macs have any issues with it? My professor was using a mac.

Some people just don't have as sharp vision as others, and others just don't like fooling with fonts in every program to adapt them to a readable size for the monitor. I've seen this plenty of times where I work; I'll setup a nice monitor (18 to 20") and get everything all nice looking, setup clear type, then their immediate complaint is everything is too small. Then I go adjust the font size on various things and they complain the borders are too small, etc.. Finally I just end up switching the resolution to 1024 x 768 to make them happy, even though it looks like crap.

so he can change the DPI and fonts to huge, still doesn't mean he has to put up with non-native res.

seems like a huge pain in the ass to explain all that to him if he's ok with his setup now and isnt asking for help

Yeah, my wife inherited my Inspiron 9300 with a beautiful 17" 1900x1200 screen... after a bunch of tweaking and stuff, she ended up just running it at 1440x900. Looks awful.
