Tell us about your car (in-dash) MP3 player

I'm on the market for one. I've learned that once you spoil yourself on the computer with 500+ MP3s, it's hard to go to the car and have a CD with 17 tracks.

The Kenwood is out of the question for me.. I've heard it cannot RW/FF through an MP3. I'd like opinions on the others (Sony Xplod, Aiwa, Rockford Fosgate RX9000). Actually the one I'm learning towards is the Rockford Fosgate. It seems to be high quality and nicely priced.

Tell us about your in-dash MP3 player. Are you satisfied with it? Does it support ID3 tags?

i will await input as well, since I too am interested in which player is the best for el carro. I currently feel the same way, but i've been spoiled with a rich 2500+ mp3s 😉
So far, I take my Rio 500 mp3 player with 96 Megs of mp3s and use that cd/cassette adapter which can be plugged into the headphones of the Rio, and it works wonders. 😛

danny~!

I was very close to deciding on the Sony Xplod, but I heard it really blows when it comes to the number of characters it uses for the song title. Something about it claiming to use 32 but it only uses 16 or so..and it's supposed to scroll but it doesn't, so you only wind up seeing 8. I could be wrong though.. someone care to clarify?

These players will play:

* regular audio CDs
* CD-Rs (containing either audio tracks or MP3 files)
* CD-RWs (containing either audio tracks or MP3 files)

I've seen the Rockford Fossgate as low as $349 online. Same price as the Xplod. The only one that's cheaper ($299) is the Aiwa I believe.

I was looking at them too. The Kenwood MP8017 looks good but you cant shuffle across multiple folder, just within a folder. Does anyone know one that you can shuffle across the entire cd across multiple folders for $300-$350? Thanks.

grumble decks are still this pathetic? argh.. guess wait for yet another generation. isn't there a rio deck now?

The Rockford-Fosgate can randomize across an entire CD.

The Kenwood: avoid it at all costs. It can't rewind/fast-forward through MP3s.

Actually, I am satisfied with my Kenwood MP-8017. And yes, it can fast forward and rewind through tracks, though not very well (doesn't display the time or "chirp" like other units to let you know how far it's gone). Otherwise, it's a nice deck. You can also throw all your MP3's in the root if you want to randomize the collection.

Oh, didn't know the Kenwood could RW/FF.. thanks for clarifying. I like to get the facts on these before I go shopping.

The Aiwa is cool because it's the only one that has a front input jack. But I heard the sound quality on the Aiwa isn't so good. Again, that's just someone else's possibly deluded opinion... 🙂

my car mp3 player is such:

Pioneer DEH-P7300 cd receiver/head unit
Pioneer CD-RB10 Auxiliary Cable
Pentium 233MMX, 64mb RAM, 2 Gig Hard Drive

it's awesome.

The "best" one is probably the Alpine 7878, but it won't be out for a few monthes.

I have the Z828 and 8017. Both FF and RW.

What ever you get, having 150+ songs per disc is AWESOME!
You will love it.

you're missing one good car mp3 deck as well, by jvc, the sh99, find it here
i highly reccommend the rockford, i had owned an 8230 with nothing but love for it until it was stolen 2 weeks ago🙁 my only complaint on rockfords, which they may have fixed by this time was that when the car was turned off while playing a cd, it would restart the track everytime u turned the car back on, annoying, but adaptable.

i don't know how much you're planning on expanding your system w/ amps or subs, but the rf 9000 has only 2 pairs of preamp outputs, more than enough for most, but not enough for me, so i had to look to other brands🙁

psteng19 - what do you use for a monitor? I have always thought about doing this, but I am a high school student and don't have much money......

i'm sorry, i forgot to mention that the 233mmx was a laptop. an old HP omnibook, very small, light and portable. It has like an 8" dual scan screen, i think.

the only problem is the battery life. i get 2 hours max between charges...

BOTH of the newer kenwood mp3 players can RW and FW in mp3s.. I have the lower end one and it does it!

My indash player is a clarion dxz715 pro audio. It has gold plated RCA input jacks that connect with my computer in the trunk, as well as a 5.6" lcd scren up front. Indash mp3 players suck, i've said this before.

Yeah dude but not all of us have $1000 or more to get the same type of rig that you do.

I mean for $350 a in-car mp3 player kicks ass.

BTW- That Clarion is friggin awesome you got there man, I had its older brother from two years ago. LOVED IT!
