GEORGE BUSH

? Civil rights: Has both supported and opposed affirmative action policies; backs constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriages; favors ''don't ask, don't tell'' policy for gays in the military; opposes gay adoptions; opposes expanding hate crimes to include sexual orientation. What happened to being a great Uniter?

? Defense: Has ordered a limited National Missile Defense to be deployed. What a joke. Why do we need this?

? Environment: Favors oil exploration in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; proposed $1.7 billion to develop hydrogen-powered fuel cells; supports 1.5 mpg increase for SUVS, light trucks by 2007. Wow...a whole 1.5mpg increase?

? Healthcare: Supports reducing drug costs for low-income patients; favors private sector competition to reduce Medicare costs; would place limits on suits against HMOs. Privatizing to reduce Medicare yet our deficit is climbing astronomically?

? Homeland security: Supports Patriot Act; wants budget increase to enforce immigration laws; regards Department of Homeland Security as primary threat conduit. Doesn't realize that the solution to solving terrorism isn't thru band aids...look to the source: Palestine/Israel

? International: Authorized war in Iraq; announced new policy of preemption in June 2002.

? Social issues: Opposes abortion except in cases of rape, incest or to save a woman's life; supports death penalty. Agreed. But, limit death row appeals (once DNA has confirmed guilt)

? Taxes and spending: Supports some privatization of Social Security; says 2001, 2003 tax cuts have kept the economy going. His tax cuts did nothing but to increase the size of the national debt while spending soared thru the roof (military). The economy is not growing.

JOHN KERRY

Civil rights: Supports affirmative action policies; against same-sex marriage but backs benefits and rights for same-sex couples; favors allowing gay men and women to serve openly in the military; supports adoption by gay men and women; wants to expand federal hate crimes legislation. Much better approach. Let's support equal rights

? Defense: Opposes National Missile Defense, supports nonproliferation and arms control. Hear! Hear!

Environment: Opposes oil exploration in Arctic National Wildlife Refuge; promotes alternative fuels, especially ethanol; wants to push new gas requirements, hybrid cars and hydrogen fuel. Not sure on ethanol. That's been a "mention" for decades, it seems. But, let's push for alternate fuels and hybrids

? Healthcare: Favors financial incentives to lower drug costs; wants to fund all healthcare by rescinding Medicare cuts; wants to allow patients to sue HMOs. Hear! Hear!

? Homeland security: Backs letting Patriot Act expire without congressional approval, speed immigration processes and reform domestic intelligence. Patriot Act served no purpose other than to detain suspects for unlimited timeframes and has been abused many times since its enactment. Many members of Congress regret its passing.

? International: Supported the war in Iraq, later said Bush misled nation; denounces threat of preemption. Wasn't waffling...just realized we were misled by President "the buck stops...uh...over there!" Bush

? Social issues: Supports abortion rights; opposes death penalty. Roe v. Wade will never be repealed but partial-birth abortions need to remain illegal.

? Taxes and spending: Opposes privatizing social security; wants to repeal tax cuts for wealthy and increase child tax credit. I'd rather see social security option for those who don't want to rely upon something that was never meant to be around this long. Has the right idea on taxes.

I seem to have forgotten the speech Kerry gave on Constitutionally banning gay marriage; link it please.

Well, Red and I agree on that point at least
LOL, if you think Romans is a fruitcake wait until you meet heartsurgeon!

Now wait just a minute Red.........

I prefer you call me a right wing Bible thumping bigot........ Fruitcake is so demeaning :D
When you said Kerry was a friend of Communists and Terrorists you entered the Fruitcake Zone usually occupied by the likes of heartsurgeon. Kerry may be a Liberal and he may be a Waffler but he is no Commie or Terrorist Sympathizer.

Sure he is......... thats what HIS ACTIONS suggest.

After all actions speak louder than words.
So filling a Commie in Black Pajamas with lead makes him a friend of the Commies? LOL and you actually expect us to take what you say serious?

No its WHAT HE DID AFTERWARDS........ stop playing so dumb Red its not flattering you
He protested an unjust war that he actually had first hand knowledge about because he was there? What do you know about it?

Blaming all your problems on some one else instead of stepping up to the plate and playing the damn hand you were dealt. You don't see me sitting around all day whinning that I'm not tall because my parents weren't tall, or I'm not a genius, etc. I take what I have and work with it. You don't just sit there and point fingers at the last guy. And besides trying to divert the American people's attention from the problem thats pretty much all Bush has done.
Ok, let me get this straight...
I am the CEO of a large corporation and RAPE the shareholders and employees. I step down and 5 days later there is an investigation. The gov't finds out about everything that is done.
According to what you believe, the new CEO should be arrested and thrown in jail. He should be held accountable.

That is messed up.

Yeah, thats exactly what I said. You've got it all figured out. Clintons mistakes should all be blamed on Bush. Thats what I said.

It would have been nice if it had been objective, but you can obviously see the bias. An example would be to look at the healthcare issue. Both Bush and Kerry support the same thing, yet Conjur didn't like the Bush part.
Another example is homeland security. Kerry actually wrote part of the Patriot act, yet they act like he never supported it.

I would also point out that Conjur are DEAD wrong on the tax subject. Comments like he made make me wish I still had that quote in my Sig that said that if you don't know jack about economics, then you shouldn't be talking about it. Comments like he made invalidates everything else he said in my eyes. I wonder if he knows anything about those other topics as well, or if he is just making false statements on those like he did on the tax subject.
The tax thing also makes me want to dig up my old Intro to Economics thread that explained why Conjur is wrong.

Because no one worthy of opposing Bush/Kerry has emerged.

I still wish Edwards was the one getting the Democratic nomination...or McCain on the Republican side.

Because the way the system is setup, there are really only ever two candidates that have a chance of winning and both of them had to be rich and slippery to get there. You don't vote for the guy who's idea you like...you vote against the guy you hate the most.

McCain seemed like a good guy, so was edwards in my experience...but wasn't he pretty much identical to Kerry on paper?

Nope...different enough to me. Esp. considering Edwards didn't kowtow to special interests/lobbyists. I just liked his ideas overall much better than anyone else's.

Edwards just seemed like the better candidate to me. A southerner has a better chance in the south of winning, and he had a really upbeat attitude that I thought would appeal to more people. Kerry looks a bit stiff to say the least.
