If you can't get the Visa extended warranty deal, then go for it. One repair will negate the cost of the plan, and LCD screens are damned expensive.

Oh, and check if you get cover for accidental damage- you wouldn't believe how many laptops I see that have had things dropped on them, or pens shut between the lid & keyboard etc...

ALWAYS buy your laptop with a Premium Credit Card (e.g. Visa Gold)

That way VISA extend the manufacturers warranty for ANOTHER year - FREE.

VISA just paid me $441 to have my Inspiron 4100 repaired (and i sold the POS the next day). It was 11 months out of Mfg's warranty but still covered by Visa. :)

Damn beat me to it.

MasterCard and Amex also offer this, for VISA it's called warranty manager. Not ALL VISA's offer this, call and ask. My CitiBank does however my Bank of America/Alaska Airlines cc does not.

Which Citibank card do you have?

CitiBank Dividend Platinum Select

Our Compaq Presario 1500T laptop purchased from Staples 9/02 is still going strong. It came with a standard 1 year manufacturer's warranty plus 1 year VISA = 2 years :)

How picky are they with trying to get that card? Right now I'm at Driver's Edge (only been for 4 months)

Your current Citibank Card may qualify for extended warranties, call VISA give them your cc # and ask if your cc qualifies for "warranty manager"?
