Tell me why Albany NY sucks/rocks

I'm considering a job that pays about 25% more than what I'm making here in Boston and salary.com says that the Albany area is about 25% less expensive than here. On one hand I love boston and want to stay here, but on the other I would make more money at a job that I think I would really like. I've been going over this in my mind for a couple of days and can't seem to make up my mind.

Edit for clarity: (Sucks)

Because it's Albany, NY.

Hell, because it's NY.

Did I mention it's Albany?

... you thought you had it bad in Taxachusetts.

the town is cheap for a reason, it's got nothing there, the tallest building is it's government.

the tallest building where i live is a Church. whats your point?

They call it Smalbany. The town has went to hell the last 10 years. When the Republicans had the Governorship they decided to ship out many of the government jobs because Albany was a Democratic stronghold. Between that and General Electric virtually fleeing Schenectady(which is just a few miles away) Albany went into a tailspin.
That said, the suburbs are very nice and there is a fair amount of culture in the area.
It ain't Boston, but if you make a decent salary you can get a very nice house and live in the country. But if you like good restaurants and the theatre you will be disappointed.

You wouldn't want to be there today. :

I'm originally from the Boston Area currently living in the Albany area(Saratoga), and although Saratoga is great in the summer, it is no comparison to Boston.

The DOE still has a couple thousand people in Schenectady at KAPL (formerly GE, then Lockheed Martin, now Bechtel).

Overall, upstate NY is pretty nice. I lived in Syracuse for a few years. I really liked it and didn't really mind the snow.
