The Canon A80 I just got was $309 USD, but GottaDeal links don't help Canadians :(

Canon s400 / s410 : small though not tiny, good 3x optical zoom, very good pictures

Canon a70 / a75 / a80 : larger (not pocket size but not a monster), great pictures, lots of manual settings.

Some people here have a big $600+ USD camera (semi-pro) plus a tiny pocket camera. Since I only wanted one camera and wanted to spend under $400 USD I chose the A80 over the s410 for the extra features.

If you don't mind the size the A70 is probably the camera for you, unless you can find a deal on the A80.

(edit) If the A70 size bothers you, then the SD110 RossMAN recommends, though the zoom is only 2x instead of 3x

Hmmm. I too follow the no-Kodak mantra since my Kodak DX3800 broke twice within six months. Pictures from it are crappy as hell.

Offhand I'd say get the Canon PowerShot A75 (3.2MP, 3x Optical Zoom) for $399.52 - $50 (off a purchase of $300 or more) coupon + free shipping = $349.52 CDN before taxes.

The Canon A75 is an updated version of the Canon A70 I own, but with a slightly larger LCD and an improved autofocusing system. Good stuff.

I'd add on to that a purchase of a Viking 128MB CompactFlash 8x card for $11 CDN after MIR + taxes + shipping.

OfficeMax has a few digicam specials this week.

Here's the flyer for Birmingham, AL OfficeMax

$199 Canon PowerShot A300 (sully owns this, right aves2k?)

$229 Canon PowerShot A70 (this is what I would buy, a nice size, a good balance of automatic and manual controls but the SD110/S400 are more compact)

$269 Olympus D-565, 4MP digicam, 3x optical zoom.

There are FOUR OfficeMax $50 off $250 coupons which expire 6/7. If your "U.S. friend" can get one of those to work then I would aim for USD $250 - $50 coupon = $200 plus shipping to Canadia.

Good luck!

Spend a little more and get a Canon A80. It was about $100 over my budget, but once I compared it to the A70 in store, I had to have it. You can probably find one for around $400 Canadian.

He used to I think. I would go with the A70 or the SD110 myself. I don't really like the size the A70 personally but some people don't mind it.

Pentax Optio S4 or S4i. Very compact (fits in an altoids tin), easy to use, sturdy, and takes great pictures for a camera its size.
