Bah, we do two-to-a-room all the time here. Of course I work in a small startup and we spend so much time together we don't feel our privacy being invaded any more than it already has been! I heard a lot more companies are doing this given the current economic situation. I think its cool, actually, because we can stay in a nicer hotel and get upgraded to a suite and its still cheaper than two separate rooms.

SOP at my company. Money is tight these days. I've gone on two training trips this year and the first I shared with a guy who snored like a mother fvcking bear. God damn his snoring.

Second time it was 5 of us and our boss wanted one of us to sleep in a cot, but the most senior of us going said that he would just pay for his own room and the boss probably let him expense it. I was smart this time and picked the youngest, thinnest guy of the group so I slept in same room as him no problems.

Inappropriate? Most definitely not. Crappy? Most definitely, but the way I see it is money saved here means less people let go (an ongoing thing at my company).

My husband has shared a room w/coworkers on business travel. It's not that uncommon when they are trying to save on $$.. not every company has the deep pocket :) If you don't want to share a room though, by all means offer to pay for your own.

Sharing a bed, now THAT would be in appropriate ;)

It's not uncommon, but that doesn't mean that it makes you any more comfortable. Doubling up on hotel rooms really can save a company a good deal over money over the course of a year if they have a lot of travelers.

Do you have a corporate account set up at any hotels? If not, look into that and see if you can set up a business account with them for your company. Doing this is fairly simple, but can save you a very good chunk of money. Setting up a corporate account at one hotel that I stay at took a $120 a nigh room and turned it into a $60 a night room. Not bad at all. If you try and get your rooms for cheaper, you might be able to justify it. If they grumble, then offer to pick up 2/3 of the tab of your own room and just tell them that you are a light sleeper and sleep better with your own room.

I had to sleep in the same king bed with my boss at ISPCon. Bleah! Guy snores like a buzzsaw and was up at 5:30am so we could "get an early start." I'll never do that again.

Yeah....business owners can be cheap.

Oh, I forgot to mention that he didn't say anything about sharing the room until we got to the hotel and we only got one key. :p

you do the work you went there to do, and then you leave. I do not see what the big deal is...all of you are mature adults and its not like you might catch a glimpse of something you have never seen before. The room is just a place to sleep, no more, no less.
