Tell me if this isn't the best damn idea you've ever heard.

You know when some posts a repost to a webpage or links to a video then says "I didn't know what to search for".

I think that the search feature should be able to search for links to webpages that people have linked to. This would make searching for previous posts a lot easier. The repost nazis won't like this idea because I will cut down on their fun.

If anandtech adopts this idea all I want in compensation is to have MOD capabilities for 10 years.

Please correct if I am nuts. But wouldn't searching for the link itself, under the current system, work? The forums has both the url string and the text displayed.

As a former repost nazi, I believe that this idea will result in the destruction of our way of life, therefore I hereby reject this idea.

If full-text searching were available to the peons, and you could search the unformatted text, then the future is already here. I'll raise a  to that idea though.

Wouldn't work.

Sometimes the reposts are located on other sites. An example of this would be the free cup holder. Everyone stole that and put it on their site. We'd have a ton of reposts, located on different sites.

The best idea I've ever heard is me going to get a cream soda right now.

This would work if the search checked the posts and not just the titles, and the fact that the same thing can be on different sites, as previously mentioned.

Additionally, not all reposts are links to other places.

there used to have full-text searching, but because there are so many users, it was removed to save bandwidth. only subscribers have full-text searches, iirc.

..so if subscriptions are going away it's a good idea but utterly pointless :(

=sigh= one of the reasons I was thinking of finally subscribing was to get full text searches. Looking to buy a game or part in FS/FT is much harder without it, as is finding some old thread in GH or here when you can't think of the right thread title.
