We have 4 computers connected to the wireless network. 3 laptops and a desktop. All of various brands, different network cards, etc. I am always having problems with the connection. Randomly dropped signal, or just dropped connection with very good signal, or cards just won't find the SSID. My roommate's laptop seems to have *less* problems than me, but he does still have a problem every now and again (as most wifi networks tend to do).

My argument, if 4 computers of different configurations have limited success with the router, than the problem is probably the router. His argument, my 3 computers aren't set up right and there must be a problem with each of my computers.

Does that not make any sense to anyone else, or is it just me?

it depends.

new router, old computers.....the problem could be the computers. update all your drivers and get the windows WPA driver update.
old router, new computers.....the problem is probably the router.

I'm not really in to networking, but it seems logical that if all 4 computers had different branded cards, then there would be some compatibility issues.

well, they're not talking to each other, only to the router, and the router should work with all of them, even though i admit that wifi in general is finicky.

I used to have a POS Linksys wireless router that both my computer and my sister's computer had constant problems with (they were wireless connections) AND the wired computers were running into network issues. Switched that Router with a D-Link 604+ and that was the end of the problems.
