This is my first PC build in years. I did some research (thanks to a member here giving me a sample config to start with) and here's what I have so far:

Case: Lian Li PC-7B plus II

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3

Video: ATI 100-435801 Radeon X1900XT

Power: SeaSonic S12-600 ATX12V 600W

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin

HDD: 2x Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA

BURNER: 2x SAMSUNG Black 16X w/ Lightscribe

Total: $1,618.91 before s/h from Newegg.

How does this look? It's a little bit over the $1,500 budget I set, but not enough for me to consider changing anything to make it cheaper. I'd go as high as $1,750 for good parts.

looks good, no need for 2 x dvd burners, maybe an ASUS motherboard instead? they're more reliable and more popular, more people on the forums will be able to help you if u had an asus

you save save if you cut back on the PSU. 430w S12 should do you justice. The gigabyte is just as reliable and OCs very well. It's also alot cheaper.

Do you need 2 DVD burners? 1 is enough for most purposes.

300 Gb HDDs are better value for money in Denmark. Perhaps in the US as well? Worth cheking out, at least.

600 W PSU is over kill. 450 is plenty.

I assume he's getting two burners so he can rip/burn from one disk to another? Looks pretty good to me. He'll want that 600w if he intends to overclock. Plus it gives him room to grow the system in the future. Alot of people say the S12 600w is a very quiet unit.

I'd say get two Seagate Barracudas for not much more. A better deal of Gbs per dollar.

Thanks.

Would it be worth spending a little extra to upgrade from onboard sound to an Audigy or Xi-Fi sound card?

Nice rig you got there. Making me jealous already... You could probably save some money getting a lower wattage PSU, and that memory seems awfully expensive. I'd go with this memory: Link. It's $100 less and offers pretty much the same performance, albeit slightly looser timings. Going from 4-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-15 dosen't make a big difference though, usually only 1%. Look at this article for more info.

I think the #1 factor for this would be what your speakers are.

Seperate sound card is always better IMO. Wether you need it is something only you can decide. Onboard sound cant match the performance of Audigy2 and definetly not the X-FI. If you want a seperate sound card but dont want to spend alot then get something like the Audigy2 ZS. Its going for about $60-$70 now online.
