I don't like mixing my scotches, except with a bit of water about half the time. Just a touch of plain water really activates it nicely.

Still have half a bottle of GlenLivet 15yr old oak reserve I'm working on. If anyone knows a good outlet for some higher end (say a 72 cask strength or other premium) lemme know.

I like whiskey. Canadian Club. I got a bottle of GlenLivet for my birthday, but haven't gotten around to tapping into it yet. My brother in law got some for Christmas, and he offered me a glass of his straight up warm. I was way too harsh for my pallete...is there a better way to drink it?

Yep, Crown is a blended whiskey. My favorite whiskey is Maker's Mark, but that's a bourbon. I don't think I've actually had all that much scotch. I know a friend of mine got me a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label a few years ago for my birthday, but I don't really recall how it tasted, it always seemed that the better Johnny Walkers were more expensive for the volume, and since I'm happy with drinking my Maker's I see no need to spend the extra $$$. Maybe when I am a bit better off financially.

You should learn to drink the blend malts like Grants, Cutty, Dewars White and Johnny Red neat or over the rocks before you move on to the single malts.

I usually drink my scotch over some ice cubes, because it is less powerful when cool and the melted ice dilutes it some.

May as well get a $8 liter of fleishmans vodka if you're just going to mix it.

i should go to the outlet on montrose/westheimer, rather than the one downtown. but there is so much stuff downtown.

For single malts, I prefer Balvenie's Doublewood (sweet compared to other single malts) and Glenlivet (any is good, but I like their 15 YO French Oak). Try the sampler size first for a few different types before you go and plunk down $35-$50 for a fifth. Take your time and ask questions, and allow yourself to try a variety of single malts. You'll find your own preference.

I prefer neat, usually; if I'm at a party I'll do Scotch and water or a Scotch on the rocks.

My roommate and I just picked up a bottle of Bowmore 17 Darkest. It's casked in sherry barrels. It's nice but I prefer the regular Bowmore 17, or Lagavulin 16.

I'm a Bowmore / Crown Royal guy. Might do some goood vodka on occasion.

Single Malt FTW....
Any Glen*, Macallans...
I usually spend ~40-50 per bottle...

Drink either neat, splash of water, or ice... up to you.

Aberlour 15 year is an easy drinker

I usually drink glenlivet, 18 year if I can get it, usually 12

I recently received a bottle of Glenlivet cask strength which was delicious, almost too strong without a dash of water

Glenmorangie's are tasty (an 18 year bottle I had a couple years ago was incredibly smooth)

Other than that everyone's pretty much on the right track, just sample until you find something you like because in the end it's all about YOU, the drinker.
