Tell me about Amazon's exchange policy for HDTVs

I am in the market for an HDTV and at this point I am just price shopping because I already have one picked out. Best Buy is too expensive and I would go with Costco but they do not carry the one I want. I found it on Amazon for a reasonable price, but what I want to know is what I may have to worry about if it arrives damaged or something else happens which makes me want to exchange it for a new one at Amazon.

I never buy big ticket items like this through them so I have no first hand experience. Tell me your stories, how you got screwed over, and why.

Thanks!

If it arrives damaged then you won't have any worries. I have sent monitors that I didn't like back to them without any problems, but never a TV. You'll need to read their return policy, most places have a certain diagonal inch no-return point. If it is 37" or below, try B&H Photo, they'll take it back.

After re-reading their return policy, I don't see anything about not being able to return a TV, other than the time limit.

Lots of places do put in special restrictions around SUper Bowl time though so look for that. I know stores that if you buy it after a certain date and before the Super Bowl, you can't return it without a huge restocking fee...

I read the policy which is clear but doesn't appear to contain any fine print which worries me more than it makes me feel better because that means I am probably missing something. The situation that worries me the most would be one where the TV arrives and works flawlessly (or so it seems) and in about 2 weeks I notice something wrong which merits an exchange in my book. What I found in regards to exchanges is this:

Did you receive a damaged or defective item?

If the item has a damaged or defective part, we recommend that you contact the manufacturer to see if they can have this part shipped directly to you. You can usually find contact information listed in the product manual that came with the item. Otherwise, visit our Returns Center. We'll ask you to indicate the number of items you're returning, the reason for return, and whether you would like a refund or a replacement item sent to you.

I am worried they will tell me "tough" and to just go through the manufacturer which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but I hate putting all my eggs in one basket like that.

I got a 46" Samsung through amazon and was happy with the whole process. Their "white glove" delivery service is awesome. Two guys brought it in, up a flight of stairs (which they aren't even supposed to do), unpacked it, set it up, and waited for me to make sure it worked properly. Free shipping, no sales tax, and $600 cheaper than the local B&M.

Is this service standard or something extra I need to pay for? I don't see it as a listed option to add so I assume it is free?

My parents had a 42" Panny plasma delivered via Amazon. It was damaged in transit (cracked screen) by the 3rd party shipping/freight company that they use. Wasn't a problem. They notified Amazon and Amazon shipped out a new one. Only drawback is it takes about another 2 weeks to get the TV.

We bought a 40" Samsung and this service is totally free. Delivered to our house, unpacked and set up where we wanted it. Also connected cable to it and made sure that it worked. Great TV, great price, and great service. I'm happy.

I bought my 50" Samsung 1080p plasma from Amazon for $600 less than Circuit City. They delivered it to my house and brought it inside for me. They would have put it up, but I wanted to do it myself.
