Tell Bush how you feel, file Bankruptcy!

I'm just realizing so many people I know are or have filed bankruptcy in the last 2-3 years. A retired elderly couple next door had to. My niece, who just bought an expensive home, had to. And my sister that was laid off had to. After hearing them talk about hard times they have/had, it seems like bankruptcy is the middle class tool for survival now a days. They don?t get big breaks like Enron or the others. I'm thinking of going into bankruptcy law, its booming here in iOwa.

Filing bankruptcy when there's no financial justification for it will not sit well with a U.S. Bankruptcy judge nor trustee and if you don't watch your credit report, the dismissed bankruptcy will be on there for years and years and years.

When I filed, it was out of necessity (new job paying less than half of the old job and the 7 months of unemployment thrown in there, too.)

they obviously got caught up with that whole conspicous consumption thing. why are they buying such an extravagant house when a cardboard box will do?

rich people have no problem with bankruptcy. look at how many millionaires enron created, the entire mid-level executives and up got golden parachutes. you should just tell your elderly niece to find a golden parachute lying in the street after it has been used by an enron executive, they're everywhere. (more specifically the bahamas)

my dad lost his job in silicon valley, now my friend's dad did to.
find a new lower paying job, get used to it. (more specifically 50% lower)

Now we are blaming Bush for bankruptcy? Usually bankruptcy is do to people running up big debt. Maybe your neice should not have bought that expensive home? Bush is to blame for everything these days, when more often than not, people need to look at themselves.

Don't recall the details, but I remember hearing that they're trying to tighten up the bankruptcy laws so that less debts are forgiven, etc. The gist was that it was better for the lender and worse for the borrower...

I gotsa friend on his third bankruptcy. the think his he racks up thousands in credit card debt. Mostly takes cash advances on the credit lines, or as much as he can and pockets the cash. in the Bank of "hole in the backyard", he lives with his parents and has no problems with it. He then Uses the cash from the credi card companies to pay the lawyers and will probely get away scott free a third time.

When you spend more than you make.

You will eventually have to file for bankruptcy.
Unless you are the federal govt of course!

had you not thrown your niece in there as an example this might have carried more weight, but really what was she thinking buying an expensive home when she might not have been in the most stable position??

Bankruptcy is an option that people should not be afraid to take.

In the 90s raises and good jobs were plentiful..perhaps a bit too plentiful.

Consumer credit availability skyrocketed and with low interest rates people chose to charge.

The problem isnt that first maxed out card at 10grand, its the 3rd or 4th, where you have to use one card to make the minimum payment for another.

The problem also is people wait too long to file....they suffer stress and it hurts them.

Stay away from credit counseling as well..they are nothing but a scam and ruin your credit as well...

the irony is that our government is the most in debt on earth with no end in sight. $400+ billion debt annually on top of $7.4 trillion already racked up.

Spend a few weeks in a hospital without health insurance, that will do it. Gone are the days when only reckless spending and bad credit habits will get you.

Yay - Blame bush when most of the time it's your own fault that you maxed out your credit lines, and are in debt to your eyeballs.

Details details...
When old folks, who worked all their life, have to file because of health cost and med costs, thats pretty sad.

My niece was self employed, cleaned businesses and made a very good income. Shortly after the new house, she came down with some kind of cancer, women get, and could not work for some time.

Being laid off work, especially with a family, is a very good reason to file.

What I was saying to Bush was, "where's the beef (I mean tax cuts) you keep saying they got"???

My whole point is it seems to me that bankruptcy "is" a legit tool or option "for those that need it".

Naturally I'm not saying to max out your cards, then file. But if you're old and on SS, you maxed out your cards buying meds, then you shouldn?t feel bad about filing.

Don?t argue... this country treats its elderly and poor (middle class too) like crap! And Bush surely has no plans to change that, unless it benefits his rich friends. But you poor saps that voted for Bush, voted against you're best interests short and simple.
