I don't know where else to put this so it is goiung here for now. My phone always runs out of batteries at unconvenient times and on eof those is now. I need to make a call but can't use my phone. Is it possible to use my computer as a telephone? Not one of the internet phone things either, I just need to be able to dial the number like usual and then use the microphone and speakers to call my mom.

It's possible, I know that, I did it once before with some software I got from gateway, but I've reformatted since then, so I don't know what to tell you to get.

It depends on whether your modem is a "speech" modem or not. If it is the software to use that function should have come with it. If you can't find the software, do a search at ZDnet for modem software.

It helps everyone hoping to help you that when you have a question like this to list your hardware and software.

You could get a phone for probably $5 at a Radio Shack and plug it into the modem. No software, no commotion. A cheap, standard phone is all you need.

I got it working but I will pick up one this week and just plug the cord into it if the other goes haywire again.
