Well, I prefer nvidia chipsets (the one chip solution helps) and nvidia vid cards.

But the 6800s are crap....I had to play with my bios to make it even work (6800U) and the onboard Video Processor is non-functional...realllll great.

Shader Model 3.0, plus SLI mode.....and ATI's answer back was the X850? Wha?!

Support wise, ATI sucks.

u call monthly driver updates sucking?

i don't...

ATi drivers from my experience are great quality and performance wise (take out OpenGL from here, ehich is only acceptable), they are better than Nvidia Oficial releases IMO, they happen every month (superb). The only Nvidia driver up to that level is XG, superb also and with great quality.

LOL...would be great if they can somehow compete with nvidia and ATI's highend cards in the future

They have a very long way to go. Their next generation cores, dubbed the 8300 and 8600, are going to be out around the time ATI's R520 is out, and they will be comparable to Nvidia's 6200 and 6600, respectively. At another angle, the 8600 will have about as much beef as a radeon 9800, while G70 and R520 are on the market.

Definitely not going well for them at all, but if they don't blunder this generation launch as badly as lasts, they may actually sell some chips. Don't expect much from them until around R600, if they can last that long.

🙁

still i'd really like a V8 Duo to play with now, can u still buy them?

What exactly are we voting for here?

nah, just what brand you prefer deep inside 😉 (and you must have some bias deep inside ya...😉)

for 'phreek (because it is the answer to his question) 😉

I'd vote for a Matrox - nice cards, nice drivers, and very good image quality on VGA out. Also, they are speedy enough for my needs (running right now an Duron 600 and a GeForce MX400, image quality on the video card leaves to be desired)

3Dfx will always be the company that revolutionized the consumer graphics market with the voodoo1. As of yet, i have not seen a more revolutionary leap than going from the pre voodoo1 days to the voodoo1.

The difference was stunning!

Well i really dont have a bias. I will buy whomever suits my needs.

Personally i think that 3DFX revolutionized gaming as we know it today with the Voodoo series of cards. Too bad they got lazy with features at the end.

Then Nvidia really evolved gaming with the first true T&L engine in the Geforce GPU.

After that ATI further evolved gaming by intorducing the 9700Pro. While not introducing any really groundbreaking new features (besides DX9) iot simply slaughtered everything in performance.

This generation i tend to lean more towards Nvidia. While Nvidias highend solution isn't quite as fast as ATI's they are both more than fast enough to run at almost any resolution. However, i think that Nvidia took everything another step this generation by incorporation other features such as Fully Programmable VPU (Albeit doesn't work on the high end cards), SM3 etc...)
__
Matrox will always be reknowned for it incredible image quality.

Some others that aren't revolutionary but i still remember. Diamond with their Monster 3d lineup. Also i remember Number 9, and some of the really old VESA Local Bus cards.

GOOD TIMES!

-Kevin

Why is there no option for none or both or something 🙁

I can't decide...i like ATi's drivers better, but nVidia makes some great cards too, including my 6800 GT.

You may be able to find a Duo on eBay, but a plain V8 can be had off Newegg for ~$75. The Duos would have been awesome had they worked.

communism would have been awesome if it had worked

Have you ever read Karl Marx? Communism is absolutely fantastic................on paper. Too bad it does not work in real life:brokenheart:

Anyways, I am an ATI/AMD fanboi at heart. Mainly because without either, prices would be even more skyhigh than they are right now. Especially for procs. I remember buying a Celly for $300 to OC because the PII was $800+.

How about some love for Savage based cards and the compression technology used?

I actually have both Duo's (the V5 and the V8), in addition to the V3 and the V5 non duo. My suggestion is to wait for the next release of cards out of XGI.

That good, huh?😉 I would really like to see a "competitive" third supplier as well. Even if it's only in the midrange cards. He11, the midrange cards are better than 9800s.

you wanna sell the V8 Duo?

but my 9800 pro would kill it in most apps IIRC...🙁

would be kinda fun tho 😉
