Two days ago I got a fever of 100. Yesterday morning woke up with a really bad sore throat, and a fever of 103. The fever was 103 again today but controlled down to 101 with lots of tylenol and motrin. The other main annoyance is that my mouth HURTS like a bitch. Tongue, cheeks, gums, lips.... almost like I took a bunch of hot water and burned every last part of my mouth. Even my gums around my molars are so sensitive I can't touch them without screaming. I have a small white dot behind my bottom lip close to my teeth but I think that's from biting it... and go figure, it doesn't actually hurt at all. It's just smooth.

Never had teh herp before and I highly highly doubt that's what this is. But just checking!

I did. She said it was probably a virus and to give it about a week. What kind of virus, she didn't say. And I didn't have this white bubble thing on my lip.

Another thing I'm considering is that I used a face scrubber that "heats" your face in the shower the other day. I got some on my lip and remember having to rinse it off. If this stuff is supposed to open up pores on your face, I wonder if it irritated my lip.

Almost sounds like a yeast infection. Babies get this sometimes (called "thrush")...very painful white sores all over the inside of their mouths.

 Herpes is permanent, and doesn't cause fevers like that. That white spot is probably a cancer sore. There have been a lot of vicious flus going around...

Can you get canker sores on your lips?

Definately canker sore because of the location, herpes simplex 1 would be seen on your face around the lips.

BWAHAHAHA - you guys are going to have that poor bastard on suicide watch in no time at all.
Get HIV tested. Thrush is a symptom of HIV - but it can also be caused by many other issues.
Good luck, and please let the medical community guide your decisions, and not a bunch of internet Doogie Howsers - myself included :)

Thrush and HIV? You guys are hilarious. He sees a doctor then seeks ATOT's second opinion.

They did a test for strep, HIV, and mono - all negative. My entire mouth hurts and when I look at my gums and the sides of my cheeks I see these little white areas. The thing on my lip doesn't actually hurt. It's the same color as my lip. There aren't any "blisters" or "oozing" or anything like I've seen herpes be described as. The thing on my lip is pencil eraser sized, it makes my lip sort of puffy, and it almost feels like fresh skin... very smooth. When you look from a distance, it almost looks like I left a small piece of bread on my lip and forgot to wipe it off. And it's just on the inside part of my lip, not on my skin.

Potentially initial HSV1 infection? I just have no idea where I would have gotten it from. Haven't kissed anyone with a cold sore or done anything like that.

I've had a big problem with canker sores myself lately, starting with when I had mono. Guess you already tested for that, but it still sounds like canker sores to me. They suck! You might want to ask your doc about some steroids to get rid of them. The problem is they lower your immune system and open you up to other infections, but it might be worth it. After having a series of multiple cankers for months, the steroids got rid of them in a week.

What? You thought I was making it up???

Thrush is extremely rare when the CD4+ T-cell count is above 200. I know you're not making it up. But you have absolutely no idea what thrush looks like or the situations it presents with.

To the OP. Look for the toothpaste Squigle if you have recurrent canker sores. They will probably won't return, as they are common in the setting of viral infection.

So I went to the dentist and he said this is all bacterial. He said the sore on my lip though painful is just a canker sore because its actually on the inside soft tissue of the lip instead of the lip itself, and its smooth and white and crater like vs. A blister or scab. He actually wants me to take an anti buiotic?

It's just weird because this is just behind my lip. So close to the lip.

I'd have to guess this is totally the herp. Today, I woke up, and the entire inside of my lip is completely swollen with a big puffy white blob.

I did. Today. And I got no where.

Doc, what are these?

They are cold sores

Ok, so I have herpes?

No, well, I would have to test for it. They are on the inside of your mouth, not the outside, so probably not herpes.

Well, aren't they canker sores then?

Same thing. Its all the same.

Ugh!
