I would guess that your dentist would know if they were there and under the gums if he has X-rayed your teeth. I would guess that if they aren't there by now you're safe.

1 small filling on the side of a molar. I belive it was probably hit with some kind of dentist tool while I was having all my wisdoms removed. I had braces for quite some time (December of 3rd Grade to December of 8th grade).

Dentists are my one great phobia in life. I can't imagine being awake when having a single tooth pulled much less 4. I have enjoyed my years on this planet and am not ready to checkout yet by risking being knocked out in a dentists office since I hear that is actually a pretty risky proposition compared to a hospital where they have people dedicated just to watching how you are doing while under anesthesia.

you don't have to be totally knocked out. just go for some level of sedation.

And if you are going under full sedation, there will be an anaestheseologist (sp?) present to monitor you. If there isn't, you need a new oral surgeon. 😛

I've been blessed with straight teeth with hard enamel. Wisdom teeth caused no problems. I've only had cleanings once a year or less.

Interesting how most people either take out all 4 wisdom teeth, or none.

No braces/4 wisdom teeth/a number of fillings do to poor childhood habits (probably 3 or 4 still around, including one filled baby tooth that doesn't have a permanent to replace it)

Distrust of salespeople, mostly... and the dentist, like a doctor or mechanic, has to sell procedures to make money, creating incentive to offer procedures when the necessity is questionable. When my wisdom teeth actually hurt and cause a problem, then I'll consider taking a dentist up on his offer to remove them.

Probably stems from when my mom was sold on a questionable medical procedure where I get to live with the results.

see that is where ignorance plays in. if you wait until something bothers you, gets infected, then that is the worst time to have a tooth removed. infected tissue doesn't heal as well for one thing.

also, if the tooth abscesses the infection can go to your brain.

I'm well aware of potential problems with infection. I keep an eye on my wisdom teeth. I brush several times a day, floss, and I even have one of those little hook things like the dentist has so I can clean behind my wisdom teeth.

The offers I have received from dentists have always been of the "just in case" variety, not because there's an actual problem. I don't believe in preemptive medicine or dentistry.

I'll admit that's an exception to my belief. Most diseases that are immunized against can have lifelong consequences, are hard to cure, and tend to be very contagious. Plus, its a job requirement. 🙂 So yes, I am vaccinated.

Compare to something like wisdom teeth problems, where the problem can easily be diagnosed and fixed pretty readily when there is a problem. No need for preemptive action there, in my opinion.
