It looks this way because the media just doesn't care when black people do things. Dave Chappelle pointed this out. Around the time the media was crazy about Elizabeth Smart (white girl), the media completely ignored a black girl who was kidnapped but managed to escape and get both of her kidnappers arrested.
The media also tends to ignore crimes where black people are the victims.

I would think that one doesn't normally walk around with a hammer in hand, meaning he had to go get it to kill his parents. I've always heard something as simple as needing to get your gun out of a drawer etc is sufficient to prove premeditation. If true, then the same rule would seem appropriate here.

The definition of pre-mediation can be that broad, or it may be narrower. It varies from state to state.
