When I was doing car audio, we were working on this old beater car. I think we were putting in a cheap cd player but I don't remember the details. Anyway, my installer ends up finding an envelope with a bunch of cash in it. It was PACKED with 100 dollar bills. There was also a huge machete in the car. The owner looked like he was fresh out of the trailer park and his car looked like it was ready for the junkyard, but he had all this cash? Was the guy a bank robber? Did he just win the lotto? Maybe he killed the real owner of the car and was getting ready to make a run for it? I was pissed that my installer found that stupid envelope. We ended up just putting the money back and made sure there were a couple of people in the garage at all times so the money didn't mysteriously disappear. When the customer came to pick up his car, I asked him to please count his money to make sure it was all there.

He just looked at me all confused and asked, "What money?"

He said he had just bought the car and didn't know about any envelope. He didn't bother counting the money if front of us. He just left in a big hurry with a big smile on his face.

$10,000 in a paper bag? No way in hell I would keep that. Sounds like a great way to get shot by a drug dealer.

And in other news, the man who lost the money is under investigation by federal agencies for...

Props for the kid who turned it in and  for the idiot to keep his life saving at home and in a paper bag.

Hell, he wouldn't have lost his $$$ even if he put that money with WM lol.

Hate these stories...just keep the money people. I bet for every story like this we hear there are 5 others who don't turn in the money though. How would we ever know? 🙂

why would you hate a story about someone being honest? 😕

Well now that I read the story it's not all that bad but if you accidentally leave $10,000 of your own dollars in a bathroom, I say you don't deserve it. Maybe it was an old senile guy though. I would of kept it anyways, and quit my job as a grocery stocker that day 😛 (I don't work as a grocery stocker, but the kid in the story did.)
too bad there aren't more of him in the world and less of you. 😕

Heh, I'm a good guy though. I would just keep the cash instead of giving it to the authorities. Who knows where it ends up them. Probably then goes to the FBI and they check to see if it's counterfeit. If I did give it up I'd likely never see a dime of it again.

I would 100% undoubtably keep it.
If you are stupid enough to lose $10000, you are too stupid to own it.

I would have taken it and hid it for a few months before spending it though.

I've no doubt the temptation to keep it would cross my mind. However, in the end it is not my money to keep. It should be returned to its rightful owner and I am glad this young man did the right thing.

as stupid as a person may be, they cannot be any more of a douche than you

Smart kid. He probably thought about him getting murdered rather than getting caught with found money. I would've kept it or buy some girls.

If I lost 10k and someone found it, when I showed up to thank them I would have a reward in hand. Give the kid $100 bill.

agreed. i would've returned it as well.

usually when i find 5, 10, 20 dollar bills, I just drop those into donations if i can't track the owner.

if I found a random paper bag in the bathroom with no info on the owner? I would keep it until someone came looking for it and I would probably give it back to this old guy (vs some drug dealer who probably wouldn't be looking for it..).

How does keeping it make you a good guy? 😕

You don't deserve a dime of it because it isn't yours.
