Another parent with a good idea when it comes to their choice pf punishment for teen driving screw-up. to her.

Article

Son gets ticket for 107mph in 55 zone. Mom makes son stand outside of school with sign every morning and afternoon for a month and puts car up for sale.

good job, and despite what people might say, I'll give the kid some credit for accepting responsibility instead of whining about how "unfair" it was to get his car taken away...

The sign for a month is a bit much, it probably lost its effect of being embarrassing after a couple of days, but kudos to selling the car.

Was this some kind of plea deal?

I dont see any mention of the kid getting any punishment from the police... he should have his license revoked at least, plus the typically large speeding fines and points on record. I really hope that this stupid sign holding act was not some way of getting out of that.

107 in a 55? That kid would definitely not ever be driving again while they lived under my roof.
The punishment seems fair.

Hate to break it to ya but this has been going on for decades.

My grandmother did things likw this to her son and so did just about every family.

It's a pretty good way to build character and give them real world experience.

Was he driving with friends or just himself? Having friends in the car makes teenagers do the impossibly stupid.

For someone his age it is. For a young child it's a bad idea. When kids get to their mid-late teens they need a good slice of humble pie and embarrassment does a great job at that.

Unfortunately it fell out of vogue in the late 60's and we are dealing with the results today.

Some, yes. But not all of them. It depends on the teenager's levels of inherent stupidity and discipline.

Oh, you're right. I suppose a three-minute time out would be an appropriate response to 107 in a 55.

Public humiliation is something that is out of vogue in the US, but it's very effective and underused. He put the public at risk driving that fast - he could have killed someone. As a society, we're moving farther and farther from a 'village' mentality toward a very selfish outlook, and I don't think that's a good thing.

Well every kid is different, but social stigma and embarrassment are powerful parenting tools. How many times have you learned a lesson because you realized you were embarrassing yourself? Taking into consideration the potential harm he could have inflicted on the public, I think it was appropriate on this occasion.

Where does it say the car was sold? It only mentioned "taken away" in the article.

Calm down there sport I didn't say he didn't deserve punishment, just that the ATOT crowd is always amusing to read on the subject of parenting.

Everyone on this forum who drives like this kid should have the same thing done to them.
