If I threw an identical 1980s clock into an identical case, broke the latch off and wrapped a piece of wire around it to hold it shut, aroused suspicion with the alarm going off in a classroom, acted evasive and lied about what it was when questioned ("It's my invention. I built it."), then I would most certainly be arrested/detained and questioned. Period.

Let me point out the problem with the base claim that article makes:
They only point to ONE historical example which wasn't exclusive to their locality and then go on and on about what happened since with that particular candidate's concern. It does this all while it COMPLETELY IGNORES that they have a documented history of violent Islamic incidents that justify their concern. The "no Sharia law in our backyard!" hysteria was not particularly limited to their community and completely ignores that this was a national frenzy after the violence in France earlier this year ("ZOMG! 'No-go' zones ruled by Sharia law!"). No, I don't think that was ever a valid concern for Irving or the nation. It was just as stupid then too.

The first teacher did nothing, some people say he showed it to multiple teachers that did nothing. The school wasn't evacuated. The bomb squad wasn't called.

The girls did a well-known senior prank and shit hit the fan. The school was evacuated. The bomb squad was called. They went to jail. Did they complain about how unfair it was? Nope. They said they "now realize how it looks" and they understood why people reacted that way.

I insisted that what happened to the kid had nothing to do with Islamophobia. I insisted that much more serious responses have happened for non-minority kids that committed bomb hoaxes or were thought to have committed a bomb hoax.

Yea I am now convinced that the intent was to make it look enough like a bomb to draw suspicion but not too much to lack plausible deniability. The family profited to the tune of $50k+ in cash and prizes and are still suing!!

I have an action plan for my own son. He will convert to Islam, build a "clock" and take it to school. Beats the fuck out of saving for college.

I thought the kid had gotten screwed on day one, but after seeing the clock, learning everything about his family and listening to him talk it had to have been a setup from the start. I just don’t see how some people just ignore all of the information that has come up since the story broke. There are so many kids doing great things around the world this is just an insult to all of them.
