How dumb do you have to be to think that the tunnel would hold. A 5 year old who makes sand castles would be able to tell you that much.
 
After watching the movie Buried just thinking about a tunnel collapse like that gives me the Heebie Jeebies.

he had dug his own hole at least 4 feet deep then he was trying to tunnel horizontally once he was down there

total dumbass
 
Guy was just having fun - I've done the same thing with snow and never had it collapsed, so I can understand if he didn't think of the possible consequences.
