Dont worry boys, I should be able to encode the entire thing. I've never done it before, so I'll set it up a few hours before the show and mess around with it for a while.

😀

Hi Bob!

Hi Dan, Hi Bob, Hi David

Hey Mate... you've been bush too long. It's starting to sound like an episode of Bob Newhart over here. 😉

Wasssupppppp?

Hi Guys, Hi Dan, Dantoo, Bob, all,

Just a few more days and hopefully get to see JW Middleton and Bot2600 (Bob) on TV too as well as that great looking TeAm Anandtech Hat. We don't get TechTV on our cable system here either so we look forward to someone being able to post it up digitized too otherwise we will have to wait a week for the VCR tape to arrive from the show.

Daz, I'd be glad to run RC5 for you here while you have your computer tied up. I have not run RC5 since so many people switched to SETI because of what happened. I mentioned what happened about that briefly too since that was around the time Dr Anderson of SETI and I started talking with each other. Wonder what made it into the piece and what didn't. It will all make it into the book.
They had me pull up my old RC5 Stats page for footage in the interview (haven't checked it out since when the case first broke out), interesting how so many blocks are still turning in and I have no idea what computers are doing that. Still in the Top 200 around 180 now.

Although the show normally features half hour segments I believe they may focus the entire hour on Distributed Computing Technology not just my case as they interviewed Dr David Anderson of SETI that day as well. It has taken them a long time to put this show together too. I think it will turn out more like a documentary, we'll see, just my guess.

... and then the movie.

He could call it "Deliverance" but I think that one was already taken.
It would fit though. So many of the same characters in each story.

but... you don't want to get me started. :Q

Seems like a sequel is in order. 😉

Hmm.. Im thinking about the encoded product.. what would you guys like to see? (codec, bitrate wise)

I think I'll probably go with Windows Media 8, since its one of the best codecs I've seen, and something along the lines of 1mbit quality..

Would you guys like to see a lower bitrate version too? 300kbit? (which is the standard right now for streaming video)

And on this topic, I will need someone to assist in hosting. If I do go with the 1mbit version, we might see files in excess of 100megs... so take that into account 😀

You could also host the smaller version if you can/want 😀

Just drop me a PM if you have some fat bandwidth 😉

Use Divx if possible. We need something that will not only compress well, but is cross-platform compatible.

From the TechTV Cybercrime.com home page today:

Illegal Screen Savers

Meet a man who was facing up to 125 years in prison for downloading a screen saver.

EDIT: They have a little audio preview up there in Windows Media Player format as well.

Ack! I cannot find the audio connector for the All-In-Wonder..

When I rip the video to the hard drive.. all is good till I try to open the file.. windows media player and ATI's player cant playback the file.. Im guessing because there is no audio stream, so it chokes..

I'll keep looking for that cable, but right now its looking pretty bleak 🙁

Looks like we'll be able to see the broadcast in a couple of hours as my neighbors have DirectTV Satellite, TechTV is channel 191 on their system. Don't know if their VCR is hooked up but I'll bring a blank tape over anyway. I do not have a video card that can download the VHS to the hard drive though.

Also got a call from Atlanta TV news station 11 Alive an NBC affiliate, they will be watching and want to air the story on local news tomorrow. Better late than never? The Governor is now showing commercials touting the Technical Colleges as his crowning achievement in his bid for re-election, what will people think when they see what the Governor and the Technical schools believe to be demonistic technology and a crime carrying higher sentences than murder?

Well i have audio working now but every file I rip from the TV.. wont open.. I just saved the 3 minute preview from the screen savers, and I have a 220meg file.. but it wont open.

Just watched it.. and ripped it. My little PII 400 is now in the process of encoding it.. looks like it will take just under an hour 😀

Anyone have some FTP space? PM me...

PS.. Looked good david.. although they didnt show the hat 🙁

YOu know when the story first broke I rememember emailing Jennifer and a few more people at techtv for a story and coverage on it. They said they would do it..

I hadnt seen it until today when I was flipping channels..

I will try encode it if other people cant seem to do it... only if I knew it was on earlier in the day.

TGG

"To not have the Computers linked together, that is the real crime".

They showed me taking off the hat as I sat down at the computer but not a close up and they didn't show the guys, John Middleton and Bot2600 Bob Mills at all 🙁

Speaking of Hats: Hats off to Dr David Anderson of SETI, one of many people I would like to meet and personally thank.

That little saying they said at the end when they got comments from the Attorney General's Office that I was told repeatedly to not download the software is a complete fabrication, how can they get away with such lies? We have in the discovery evidence in black and white that they say they didn't even know what Distributed.Net is and they felt it was criminal technology and they were going to go after them after they were through with me.

I wish they would have had the balls to tell people the real story. I didn't get to see it but if they allowed the gov't to FLAT out lie then....

I can't wait to see it, as I don't get TechTV. 🙁

Maybe we need another little mail campaign to remind them of the TRUTH, and there are people that know they are LIARS! Grrrrrr :|

And why did they only mention the jail time David was facing and not the ridiculous fine? And how they came up with the cost of bandwidth? They didn't even mention the amount of public comment that this raised on web sites and forums. How about the fund raiser auction of computer power? There were several aspects of this that were left out.

The "Jack booted thugs" didn't want to appear on camera so that everyone else in America could see what a complete bunch of idiots they really are. I'm sure they were sitting and laughing at what got said at the end of the story, even though it's not true.
