At 1920x1200, the gtx580 is faster than the hd6990. The gtx570 is only about 10% slower than the hd6990, and is faster than the hd6970 by a few percentage points. The gtx560 also sits nicely between the hd6950 and hd6970. At 2560x1600, the gap is narrowed and even reversed in some cases, but the gtx590 is the only card that can deliver playable frame rates with extreme quality settings.
Looking forward to seeing how much the DX11 patch will stress high end hardware, and if it will widen the gap or bring the two architectures close to parity.
