[Techspot] 6 generations of Nvidia compared

"Now with the arrival of the GeForce GTX 1080 we see another big step forward, partly thanks to a much needed die shrink that has allowed Nvidia to take their already efficient Maxwell architecture and supercharge it. Despite 9% fewer CUDA cores, the minor tweaks made to the Pascal architecture along with the enhanced core clock speed meant the GTX 1080 was on average 31% faster at 2560x1600 than its 980 Ti predecessor."

"Looking at two popular and modern titles such as The Witcher 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider we still find similar margins for the most part. The GTX 1080 was 31% faster than the GTX 980 Ti here. Even if you do consider the maximum overclocking performance of the GTX 980 Ti and GTX 1080, the Pascal graphics card still comes out on top at around 20% faster while consuming considerably less power."

And so on and so forth . . .

Dragon Age: Inquisition is one of the newest games tested so far as it was released in late 2014.

"One of the newest, 2014"... what year is this? 😀

Why are they using 1366x768 resolution?

Why did they list the 1080 as $600 while the others are at their release pricing? Most 1080 are $620+ on newegg still today, let alone at release of $700 only.

Because it's appropriate? Prices have been as low as $550 in the past 2 months. The 1080 can regularly be had for under $600 now. There is one for $580 after MIR, and another 5 at or under $620.

And 980 Ti could be had for ~$500 at some points as well, yet they listed release pricing for all except the 1080.

The msrp release price of the gtx1080 was $599. The special early release edition, the reference version was $649. If online stores charged more it was for profit.

No, show any manufacturer that released 1080 @ $600. The online stores weren't charging extra, that was the MSRP from the... actual Manufacturer, not the suggested retail price that NVidia came up.

Its an amazing loophole for Nvidia though for the sites like techreport that are using it, even though it isn't truthful.

Hey Pot, Kettle called.

Techspot had a recent guide for historical AMD cards at $200. They included the RX 480 4gb, which was both MIA and above its MSRP $200 at the time the article was made. Did you cry foul that techspot was putting the RX 480 in a better light? No, no you did not.

No. you show me proof that the MSRP was not $599. You made the statement.
Please don't tell me , "you could not get one at $599 at release".
I can name you many products you can't get at msrp when they are first released.
Those products are usually in high demand because its the best product of its kind on the market.

edit: mabe you should make an account over at Techspot and complain. I'm sure they will point you to the definition of MSRP.

Great personal attack there.

Where exactly was this techspot article posted here?

Also AMD did have $200 cards at launch, people on these forums even bought them and unlocked them to full 8GB cards. 480 has been under $200 very often even custom 8GB versions.

I never saw a single under $600 1080 released. EVGA had the cheapest @ $620(?) but they didn't actually produce it for over a month after initial launch. How can I prove something that doesn't exist?

Good, you can add the 1080 to the list then.

Its not a personal attack, it's you wearing an agenda on your sleeve and only seeing things the way you want. Anyways, we all know 480 4gb cards at launch were about as scarce as virgins in hedonism and $200 wasn't a price 99.95% of buyers paid for said cards in the first few months. You're latching (and spinning) on to anything AMD good and everything Nvidia bad.

The techspot article about AMD cards was posted on here, search is your friend. Try it out. Perhaps you were just too busy trying to bash and spin nvidia information to take notice.

And I've been wondering...What was your user name on here before you made your current account? You "gracefully" transitioned into these forums at the same time a couple of hardcore AMD fans faded and took to the front lines quickly. Coincidence? I think not.

So much to debate here, I see the usual suspects adoring your posts so it's just going to go around and around.

I think you need to look in the mirror a bit before commenting like that.

Oh, and microcenter sold all cards at release with suggested msrp for AMD. They weren't difficult to find and I even offered to buy people some.

I do not need you to moderate this thread. I only need you to stay on topic.

where does it say that?
GTX1080 is like 30-40% faster than GTX980TI(aftermarket 980Ti is 10-12% behind GTX1080 or even faster like metro LL)
they using all reference cards...They should atleast OC them and run them in 1440p in all games.
We knows pascal have almost zero oc headroom and 980Ti 30-35%.Same with 780TI.

so your assuming they are all reference cards? They don't state it in the article?
Well that settles that.

980 Ti was an awesome GPU.

yea I'm glad I returned my 1080 for one during black Friday. The performance difference was not worth paying almost 300 more. Does overclock well but seeing it boosts to 1405 after warm up I am quite satisfied.

Edit: is it very 100mhz that performance increases or every +50mhz? Meaning is their any difference going from 1400 to 1418 or 1450?
