TechRestore offers 15" MBP Matte Screen for $199

overnight service is 99, not included in the $199 price.. the wording on the blog is weird.

and dammit apple, see? WE DON'T WANT THE GLOSSY SCREEN!!!! I must admit the sexiness of the new macbook after using it for an evening.. I was tempted to forgo the fact it had a glossy screen, almost.

Edited, thanks. I like the glossy screen, doesn't bother me - I can just tilt it a bit. But I don't have a *need* for a portable right now, so I'll wait until the summer update and see if we get any mobile quads in 😀

I had considered it as a desktop replacement actually. I don't think I could do it, as I had to get rid of my imac and go hackintosh. But I'm really starting to miss the imac, haha. I used a new 24" for a while, the gloss didn't bother me as much as I thought, but that thing is insanely bright.

What I'm really trying to do is see if I can't convince work to get me one as my main system, heh.

I've always wondered how the glossy screen ever became a desired feature. Are there any upsides? 😕

I dont really understand the distaste for glossy screens. I've owned both types (in the form of Dell laptops) and really don't have much of a preference. I don't usually sit with the sun over my shoulder though.

Richer colors, and a brighter screen.

Honestly, the only times I have had issues was when there was a lamp right behind me... like right now... sigh. 🙁

People think it makes the colors more vibrant. Which is kind of like people enjoying factory shipped sports modes on TVs with the brightness and backlight cranked at 100.

Vibrance/richness != accuracy

this is also why people like HDR pictures
