Mp3.com is actually a pretty good resource when it comes to techno, since they have it subdivided by genre, and have a chart listing of the more popular stuff on there. Mostly these are artists that haven't been mentioned in this thread yet, but there is quite a bit of good stuff. Personally, I tend to go for melodic trance..

Amethystium does some really excellent electronica/ambient/mood/trance :)

A lot of those artists mentioned I would not class as Techno.
If you listen to Techno in a club then you'll know what it is like.

There are many types of music in this field.

some of my favourites are Acid Techno, Psychedelic Trance.

Try peoplesound.com and look under Dance section

Stay far far away from that dance techno crap they play in gay clubs and the "boomski-boomski" clubs with chicks singing. That will definately drive you away from the genre. Also, don't get into the really intense crap right off the bat. You probably won't appreciate it at first. There's too much stuff to list, but here's a start:

For downbeat:
DJ Wally - off of "The Stoned Ranger Rides Again" esp. "Outta My Head" (it's hard to find but a great track)

Electronic:
Aphex Twin - "The Richard D. James Album" Especially "4" and "Fingerbib" (this album got most of my friends hooked on tech)
Caustic Window (AKA Richard D. James) - esp. R2D2

Jungle:
DJ Soulslinger - his ambient stuff is a little boring, but his hardstep crap is great
Kenny Ken - again, try to find "Kenny Ken w/ Stevie Hyper D live at Mach 1"

Trance:
Paul Van Dyk - BT Flaming June off of "Perspectives" is amazing

Turntablism (scratching):
Qbert - stay away from his studio releases (they're crap) but his sets are good)

If you're in the Buffalo area, check out Sampson at club 658 :)
