Another genre of music I haven't heard too much of is techno. I'm interested by it, and I'd like to hear some of what you consider "good" techno. So what should I look for? Thanks.

<< wanna expand your music taste tonight RSI? >>

Yep. :) I like to say I'm musically open minded, but I want to actually be.

My playlist mostly consisted of rock, hard rock, hardcore punk, "pop" punk, and stuff that sounds like those. MxPx, Pennywise, NOFX, System of a Down, Nickelback, Green Day, Goldfinger, Linkin Park, Finger Eleven, Fuel, BIzkit, Lit, Reel Big Fish, Staind, Weezer... Just to name a small amount. It gives you an idea of the general style of crap that I've been listening to for the past while. There are many many bands I left out, but that's unimportant. I also have Led Zep, Queen, Pink Floyd, Beatles, etc - I like that older stuff too, but generally I listen to the first list of stuff I mentioned. I hear some rap, techno/dance stuff here and there with other people, and occasionally I like what I hear. So I want to see what I'm interested in.

your taste sounds alot like mine, but I really listen to every type of music, save country, but the "Oh brother where art thou" soundtrack is pretty cool too

Yeah, I try to listen to everything too, except I don't really like country at all. I used to say "except country/rap", but some rap I'm listening to now I think I'm gonna like quite a bit, so I definitely can't say I don't like rap. I have yet to hear country that I like, though. :p

PS: Got "Sunshine" by Dr Motte and Westbam. Pretty cool. Also getting Love Parade 2000, You Can't Stop Us, Music is the Key.

My favorite artists for techno include Infected Mushroom, DJ Tomcraft, and Midi Miliz. Philosomatika plays a lot of really phat acid/techno around the clock.

do you mean "techno" or "electronica"

techno is a genre in itself, usually defined by it's raw noise and whatnot

techno - the crystal method, prodigy, the advent

if you meant electronica, it's basically subdivided into

house, breaks, trance, hardcore, + a few other odd categories

house - derrick carter, mark farina, dj dan, little louie vega
trance - paul van dyk, christopher lawrence, sasha, digweed, bt
jungle - ak1200, dieselboy, dj dara, ed rush + optical
hardcore - hardcrap, don't bother ^_^

Maybe not the "techno" that your looking for, I suppose they fall under block beat, but, crystal method, chemical brothers, propellerheads, aphex twin.
Maybe try some trance on for size, anything from paul oakenfold, especially travelling disc 2, tranceport, live in ibiza, it's all really good. DJ tiesto, Shasha, John Digweed, Dave Seamen, any of the artists from global underground are very good as well.

Hard to find groups that are strictly Techno (even crystal method makes some Trance at times) unless of course you meant to say Electronic music and not Techno... Techno is a genre within Electronic music and very much different from Trance, Jungle, or House (BPM, mood, etc) which are other genres within Electronic among many others..

But hey here's a few for ya that you might like (but then I'd mention them anyways as very good groups)..

Coldcut
Propellerheads
Eat Static
Leftfield
Swayzak
Orbital
Ed Rush & Optical (Jungle but if you like them you'll like other Jungle)
LSG (Trance)

In my mp3 folder, under the Electronic Music folder, I have subfolders for:

* Abstract Beats
* Ambient
* Disco
* Eurodance
* House
* Old School
* Techno
* Trance
* Trip-Hop

That should give you an idea of what's out there.
