technical writing formatting question (indent after equation?)

oops, i guess i can't really indent anyway while posting to provide examples.

Basically, when you write.


The outcome relies on the equation:
y = ax + b
where y, a, x, and b are determined by....


The where isn't capitalized, but is it indented?

I had a tech comp class and still couldn't tell you for sure. I'm thinking no, you don't indent though.

pretty sure it's not indented

just checking but you know the equation should be centered too right?

cool, i just wanted to have someone else's opinion to back my own, as I'm correcting the writing of a collaborating professor (and i'm just a lowly grad student). it's amazing to me that some of these guys have gotten this far with their writing skills, though by now they don't have to care because they have people like me to spend time sweating the small stuff.
