Technical Question about power supplies

I'm trying to make more space in my case, and I have extra drive power connectors (the "dealies" you plug into you hard drives and optical devices), and I'd like to know if I can cut them off. Is that safe (I'm betting so, but I'd like some confirmation)? What's the best way to cut them off?

I cut mine off, I just used some wire cutters. Just make sure the leads don't touch each other.

Better yet, tape the end up with electric tape.
