So, I was thinking about one of these as a better pairing than my 1060 with my monitor (I had bought the 1060 first). Newegg has their presale orders up now, and the prices are ridiculous IMO:

EVGA $469
Gigabyte $489
Asus Strix $509

I love my 1060 strix, but at $509, who in the world is buying one of these? Why not just pickup a 1080?

Also as an aside, is there not a forum link on the main Anandtech page anymore? I accidentally went there instead, and figured Id just click the link. Didn't see one.

Zotac 1070 Ti Mini is slightly cheaper at $449.99 on Amazon and B&H (but no preorder there, just listing with notify button).

It seems this card is a good way to sell more full spec 1080's for $490.
I would easily buy a 1080 card over a Vega 56 or a 1070ti at current prices.

Between the ether boom, Vega being crap, and Nvidia still pushing Pascal instead of giving us Volta this year I'm getting pretty sick of PC gaming. I mean it was bad three years ago paying $350 for a GTX 560 equivalent in the product stack (eg cutdown midrange XX4 dies), but now paying $475 for it? I have barely even touched my PC for gaming this year after getting a PS4, PS3, and Wii U and I'll be fine without it. I'm starting to wonder if my 970 will be the last gpu I buy. I'm never going to pay these kind of prices for midrange dies.

Those small SKUs xx4 are made lately only for one thing:milking.I learned lesson with GTX1070 and i will never ever buy again xx4 SKU.Only real card NV offering is 1080TI in high-end.X60 cards are also decent, but 1070 and 1080 are just milking cards nothing more.

xx4 SKUs are midrange SKUs selling as gtx460,560 and so on(200usd) in past.Today NV using them in GTX1080/1070 and charging for them 700USD(new GTX1080) thats why they are just milking cards nothing more.
1080TI is only real high-end card from nv for decent price(it was 500-650usd in past) so 1080TI at 700USd have actually normal HE price.

The big dies 80Ti equivalents were $500 back in the day of GTX 480/580. This gpu price inflation really makes me question if PC gaming is worth it. About the only way I could logically justify the price now is if you just went and pirated all your games, which is an easy (but shady) option on PC but not console.

Yes it is 40% higher price 700usd vs 500usd.But it still better than milking xx4 SKUs.They were 200USd and now nv sells them for 700USD thats 350% price increase.

Given GDDR5, yes - or at least even if they aren't deliberately targeting miners, that's who'll be buying them regardless of whether they are a good value for gaming. That's what people are missing when they wonder why anyone would pick this over the only slightly more expensive 1080, which isn't very good for mining currencies like Ethereum versus the 1070. Difficulty has gone up for Ethereum, but they'll still sell plenty of these.

I read somewhere that low latencies are preferred over Ghz. So gddr5 is better than gddr5x for mining. Which is nice because it relieves supply for 1080 tiers.

It's simply a marketing move to one up the Vega 56, which is really the only desirable Vega.

Got preorders in in Newegg and B&H. Looks like unboxing embargo lifted today (rather useless, since the external designs are mostly identical to the regular 1070 models) and review embargo lifts only on the 2nd. I'm wondering how many people will change their minds if the 1070 Ti turns out to be an overclocking beast (not saying it will be, just daydreaming ).

I believe this will be the best price /performance card to get in a week or 2.
Less power, quieter, less heat and more performance for about the same price as it competition.
How can you go wrong?

Just checked newegg prices,on gtx1080 and 1070's . A good 1080 is ~$500 and a good 1070 is ~$425, if the gtx1070ti is priced somewhere in between there, its golden.
Nvidia seems to have the $400 to $650 market covered.

Agreed. I think what is bothering people is that it isn't a new product, and lately anything that's seen as a rehash or rebranding is instantly seen as an evil, big corporation plot to screw over consumers.

But, taken on it's own, it is a good card for someone who hasn't gotten a Pascal generation card already. If the 1070 Ti had come out before the 1080 - putting aside for now that it's derived from the 1080, just assume it was a higher spec 1070 - the 1080 would be looked at as a poorer value, MSRP vs MSRP.

Sure, Nvidia is taking advantage of their position right now and the timing since this after Vega 56 and at least months before Volta, and maybe they are "milking" it. That doesn't make it a bad product or a poor value, though, and I find it hard to blame them, especially if they just have all these lower binned 1080s sitting there.

Well its competition is a $470 Vega 56 and $580 Vega 64..
It will be faster than the 56 and very close to a Vega 64, so where should,it be priced?
$500?
$479?
At $479 I think it will be a great deal, vs a $470 Vega 56, and sell out fast , you?
