Its because India has Millions of Unemployed Programmers who are in generally smarter than the programmers in America and are willing to work for pennies compared to the ones here, and companys will save alot of money.

God me too, I will be loosing my job along with 150 tech at Dell in TX at the end of next month to an Indian tech!

All so Dell can make more money at a cost to customer satisfaction.
If it makes you feel any better they will be loosing a lot of coustomers too.

i agree...and i will to the best of my ability...boycott those companies that do it....i know it it hard...but i have written letters to many...but the fat cats just see $$$$$$$$$ and thats all that matters to them....excessive greed is what it is....cannot be satisfied with 800 million in the bank...have to have 2 billion....i am afraid this will get much much worse before things change...it will also lead to the downfall of our horrible economy already

True, I take around 20 to 30 calls a day from Corporate Users and I would say that 2 in 10 say Thank God you speak english to start the call.

I also no longer use Netgear.

I've quit buying their products for the past couple of years, but had a switch I got a long time ago go bad about a month ago.

So went through the hell that is their tech support. Took 3 different guys and I think we all got tired of each other.

I get a call back with an RMA finally but I'm out. So the secretary writes it all down, but doesn't know what the hell he is saying. She couldn't even understand what company he was calling from.

Absolutely pathetic when you can't even tell what business the guy works for.

And yeah Dell is just as much ass. I got so damn frustrated with the guy I spoke with last time that I just slammed the phone down on him. Was so pissed off. They can take their laptop back and keep it and I'll just buy elsewhere.

At work we had a display on a laptop go bad, so we called Dell. They send out a tech with a new screen, he walks in the door and guess what. He's Indian

But I guess that's the punishment us white people get for oppressing the world.

Add Electronic arts and AOL broadband support to the Indian Tech support list.

Someone should email this thread to the President of Netgear!

It's pathetic that all our jobs are going to India. Who gets the shaft? The employee. Who gets a huge bonus? The Top 5 Execs!

There should be legislation against this sort of stuff.

guess you are the lucky one...but still not the point...could be chinese...the point is, the crappy service you get because of a select few wish to line their pockets with even more money at the expense of the middle class

the middle class always gets the hit

This thread should be stickied over in Politics and News Forum area with a list of the Companies that have sent their Tech jobs to India.

because ive had to call them numerous times over the last few days and every single freaking person ive spoken to has seemed indian (a few cute sounding ones tooo ...cute sounding GIRLS, you asshat)

I call Dell pretty frequently and always get an american. Of course, I call for work and it's the education side of tech support. Just buy all your dell stuff through the small business side and I think you may get better service. ;) All the server divisions for Dell are still located in Austin, TX. Last time I called for my laptop, my call got routed to Panama City. The tech on the phone was from Alabama....kinda cool cause he said their office was a mile or so from the canal and about 3 miles from beaches. /me jealous

I gotta story

My friend was having trouble setup his Dlink Wireless router and since I'm not a networking buff I tell him to call their tech support. He says he tried atleast on 10 different occaisons receiving what he perceived to be

a) Arabs/Indian/Somemthing like that and b)Austrailians

He said the Arabs/Indians repeated generic statements the entire time and he couldn't understand him. He said he continously asked people to repeat stuff. And it sure wasn't was easy for him with the Austrailians (maybe those were Indians too?) - he said he could not understand anything beneath an accent that thick. He was asking for things to be repeated for or five times in a row and still could not understand so he closed the phone on them.

He called me over and asked me to call. My first try I hit the "arabs". I could not understand WTF they were saying it was ridiculous. I don't care where these peoplea re from but they should understand basic english and it is hard to get used to an Indian accent. My english teacher was from India and by the end of the year I could understand her when I first walked into her class (if only the incident occured AFTER I took this class) I was wondering whether I truly was in the class.

Anyway I got mad and figured that since they have no idea what was going on I should have some fun so I started cussing at them for their insolence and arabic and lo and behold - they understood me and I actually understood what they were saying and helped solved his problem entirely in arabic with my friend peering at the keyboard and moniter trying to get an idea over what I was saying.

For those who'll wonder how I coldn't understand them in English and how I could in Arabic (the guy was actually a Pakistani who could speak arabic living in India because of this job) its because if you speak to someone who does speak arabic and you hear it from them you'll notice their voice changes because the language uses other parts of the mouth I guess [throat]...

But to think I called an English Helpline and the situation was solved speaking Arabic...

Out of curiiosity:

Would you guys be btiching as much assuming we could understand them or no? Because then the issue would be lost jobs rather the combination of lost jobs and whether or not we are getting "tech support"

If any other companies have moved their Tech support to India or elsewhere that can't speak english correctly, Please list them here.

That would make a great website.

Im thinking about it, but im too lazy. :)

as much as I hate to say it, so do I. They think short term, "we could save XX dollars if we fired 500 of our good workers, and shipped these jobs to some asian country where we can pay them 10 cents an hours." Enough of these companies do it, and all of a sudden you have a snowball rolling down the hill, and it will RUIN our economy beacuse of the lack of jobs.

I think there is a simple fix for this, if their incentive to ship these jobs out is because it cheaper, the US congress should pass some legislation where we either don't trade with, or less severely, they can't employ more than X amount of people in these foreign countries, unless these countries guarentee certain workers benefits, working conditions, and wages. THis would make it more expensiev to hire these foreigners, and maybe they would think twice.

Another way we could help is to pass a law to tax any wages paid by an American company going to overseas workers.

Probably all those American tech support people whose unemployment benefits ran out and are willing to work on the cheap.

Actually you hit on the important part of this subject...the lost jobs!!!! It would be nice if the consumer could band together and make a stance (like petitions and boycotts) to bring the jobs back to this country.

We saw what happened after 911, a horrible incident, but when no one was buying anything, like car and houses, things became more reasonable. The same thing applies here. It is the consumer that has the power in this country, not the businesses. If there is no demand, what can they do. Can you imagine, if no one bought a car for 2 weeks, just 2 weeks. These companies make billions and billions of dollars and influence way too much in the way of legislation as well.

However, it takes many to get things changed.

I try as hard as I can everyday. It is tough though.

The same thing is happening to Car workers whos jobs are sent to Mexico and to Textile workers whose jobs are also sent off to other places.
What kind of site could be made now?....American Made/American Supported manufacturers and products list?

You assclowns are complaining about cheap support but I don't see you complaining about cheap price ? How in the hell do you think dell can afford to sell top of the line PC's for $400? Where do you think that 10%-20% coupons come from?

Make up your mind already you can't have cheap + quality. No free lunch remember? Besides its not like that the tech support here in US was so great to begin with. Try talking to some clown in Alabama.

Here at work we have problems with Dell support as well but we have found that most of the times its the connection which is causing the problem.

Who said anything about the prices? I would gladly pay more for better support though.
