It'll only get worse. Sooner or later they'll find a country that labor is only a fraction of the cost of India and the people can sort of speak english.

It is for this very reason I stopped buying all Netgear products. I had a probelm with my RT314 router and had to call tech support several times. Each time I got some Indian who could not be understood hardly at all. I kept apologizing while asking him to repeat what he had said.....sometimes 3 or 4 times!!!!!!!! I finally gave up trying to resolve the issue since I couldn't find a soultion through them nor could I understand what the hell their techs were saying. I bought a D-Link that week and have been happy for a year and a half.

When are these companies going to learn? Indians have the WORST accent possible to try and decipher their english. They might speak perfect english.....you just can't hear it through the damn accent half the time. I'm not knocking Indians....but if you cannot be understood when speaking english then you have no business doing phone tech support or teaching me Physics in school ;).

They tried to tell me that PING worked over TCP port 1.

I told them that ping isn't even TCP, it's ICMP. I got a bunch of "uh's" and "um's" from them. I hung up.

In NetGear's defense, I got a call back the next day from someone who spoke real English and was pained to hear what I'd been told by their "support" on the other side of the world.

Most companies have horrible customer service. Especially with the internet, they can't handle all the emails and phone calls. The worst is when they have a link on their site "need help, contact us here". So you fill out a form and no reply in 2 months!

If they have to also have a staff of people who can actually speak english and know what they are talking about call you back the next day to resolve the issue then how are they saving money having call centers in India? DOH!!!!!!!!!

Exactly....the problem I had with them was support for the hard drive dying in the computer. It was popping loud and data kept becoming corrupt on it too....and XP was blue screening. Kind of a "duh" there....but the Indian on the other line was saying it was a problem with the Network!!!!!!!!!!!!! " Sir, you have network unplugged from computer?" WTF??

I hope to heck...these multimillion dollar companies feel the backlash of this....

as much as I hate to say it, so do I. They think short term, "we could save XX dollars if we fired 500 of our good workers, and shipped these jobs to some asian country where we can pay them 10 cents an hours." Enough of these companies do it, and all of a sudden you have a snowball rolling down the hill, and it will RUIN our economy beacuse of the lack of jobs.

I think there is a simple fix for this, if their incentive to ship these jobs out is because it cheaper, the US congress should pass some legislation where we either don't trade with, or less severely, they can't employ more than X amount of people in these foreign countries, unless these countries guarentee certain workers benefits, working conditions, and wages. THis would make it more expensiev to hire these foreigners, and maybe they would think twice.
