Hi folks,

just moved over from a 22" CRT. For gaming, this thing is outstanding. right out of the box I played COD2 at native 1920x1200, right in the middle of a horrendous mortar and close combat section-lot's of pixel refreshing going on. no hint of ghosting of any kind. It's amazing and spectacular! It's hard to see everything that's going on without turning my head like I'm watching a tennis match...

But, here's my issue......text. with word processing, spreadsheets, or internet viewing, I have a problem. it also exists on my wife's Sony 19" panel, so I'm sure it's us LCD neophytes.

The text is not uniformlly black. it's like the letters are shadowing, almost out of focus, so are dark black, others lighter black, but hardly anywhere on the screen is the text sharply in focus.

I ran the MagicTune software that has coarse and fine adjustments to the text. I can get some of the screen looking sharp, but others are still slightly out of focus.

Also, as i read across the screen, the text is black, then green, then purple.......

BTW, I am running the RGB analog connection.
Can anyone tell me what I'm not doing? I have always heard that on newer panels, the text is razor sharp......

It should be, assuming your desktop is at native resolution (if it's not at native -- 1920x1200 for the 24" widescreen, and 1280x1024 for the 19" LCD, it will look bad). You might also check your ClearType settings (try it both enabled and disabled and see if one is better).

It could also be a signal integrity problem if you're running VGA or YPbPr at 1080p. Why not use DVI?

That's your problem. Get a DVI cable. And make sure you're running at native resolution. ^^

You probably have bad ClearType gamma settings. Download ClearType tuner (Google) or use the online one on MS's fontography site. Then adjust it so it looks good. VGA would cause the blurriness but not the weird colors I'm thinking. Definitely use DVI though, or get a DVI cable and DVI video card. It's so worth it at that resolution. You'd be castrating it without DVI!

"you'd be castrating it without DVI". I love that!

I just picked up a DVI cable.......wow....first time I have ever seen digital video......wow...everything looks perfect. Plus I was going through a KVM switch before with the VGA. Even though the switch is spec'd for 1920x1440 res...........you know how that goes..

Now my problem. I have 3 PC's that I was using a KVM switch to connect to with my old CRT monitor, with VGA video. two of the PC's have DVI ports, but the laptop is VGA of course.

so now, I either need to find a KVM that switches DVI(probably mucho dollars), or I may have to return this Samsung and get the Eizo 2410 which has two DVI ports(and costs $300 more!). That way, I can direct connect to my two DVI enabled PC's, and use the VGA port to my laptop.....

this is beautiful......

just as an aside. I was dissapointed that a panel as this price point did NOT come with a DVI cable. That was $45(for a 10') at my local computer store....

Ouch. That's a high price for a DVI cable. Samsung did the same thing with my monitor, but it wasn't nearly as expensive as yours must have been.

I picked up a 6 ft. Link Depot cable from Newegg for much less than that. Of course, if you needed the cable right away, then that was all you could do, but I just felt like telling you there are much cheaper cables on the Net.

I do find that kind of amazing too. My Samsung 710T and ViewSonic VP930b included a DVI cable and a VGA cable (IIRC two for the VP930b!)

Oh yea newegg.com is my best friend, but you are right. I needed the cable right away. Plus this computer store is no best buy or comp USA. everyone there wears a tie! They really know the PC's industry and are truly professionals, so I like to throw a few dollars their way when I can.

good brick and morters are hard to find nowadays.

xtknight, regarding your question regarding the NEC CRT. Sorry, I'm not familiar with it. I had a Mitsubishi Diamondpro 2070 22" crt that I am replacing with the Samsung.

text(now that I have DVI!) is miles better than the Mitsubishi. I will have to wait to calibrate the samsung with my SpyderPro before know if the colors are as good or better than the Mitsu. I can tell you that blacks are really, really black on this panel.

thanks!

Ah OK. Yeah, I meant the Mitsu. (NEC/Mitsu monitor division merged or something.)

Hi Vertiggo,

unfortunately, your 244T will NOT coming with a DVI OR VGA cable. only a power cord and a component cable dongle....

Hey have you tried running the monitor with the component cable, with a game console or something? I don't frequently see reviews on these monitors cover component input (although I'd imagine it's just fine, but I'm curious).

Yeah, I got a 710T and got a DVI cable, while some people did not. It varies with Samsungs (maybe anybody's), so you will never know.
