I am 16, i am taking that Cisco Academy thing, simple as he**, and i am really good with computers, well people say so, but what do i have to do to get some kind of tech job this summer. I am think these people are gonna say, ooo you are a kid in high school and i probably know four times as much as him anyway. So do i need some kind of cert, will that prove to them i am not some snot nose kid? I am taking the Cisco program to prepare for the CCNA etc exams from cisco, i hear those are a real bas*ard... So is there any cert i can take thats easier in the mean time, i just want something that will make me some decent money not 20g's. Like A+ cert or something? Where can you take the certs? Last of all where should i start looking for jobs?

Two words:

Tech Support

They love people like you. They know you know your stuff, & you'll jump at the chance to make $10 an hour. Check local ISPs for openings. I got my current job at 17, started at $11.04, & am now making almost $12.75 an hour. That works out to roughly $26,500, though I expect to top $28K this year. Not bad money for 18 years old & living at home.

As for certifications, I wouldn't worry too much about it. They aren't really necessary, I didn't have any when I got my job.

Damn... I wish my hs had the cisco academy thing.. We had a a+ certification thing in school tho. I took my a+ when i was 15 and passed it.. Easy as hell... next you SHOULD take the Network +, THEN your ccna. Network plus , imho, will prepare you for the CCNA pretty well.. You take all those exams at sylvan prometrics (www.2tests.com)
Hmmm with your CCNA, 20g's should be nothing.. can you say bling bling.... :)

we had an A+ academy at my school, what a joke. My friends and i did find th limits of many 486 machines though. Who would have thought that the old IBM proprietary hard drives that were about 8 inches high and weighed 20 lbs didnt have a very high tolerance to screw drivers while they were spinning...

Viper is right. Anyone that expects to do heavy duty tech work in the future should start out in tech support. I began there too. You might know your stuff but tech supports teaches you important interpersonal, crisis management, and thinking skills. You can be the brightest tech in the work but it doesn't mean anything if you aren't able to work with other. Give it a shot.

<< Check local ISPs for openings. >>

Any other good places to look? Or places on the internet to browse through such openings?
