Tech industry needs to find better names for its products

Is it just me, or does it really seem that there's a trend in (bad) naming tech products. Come on, look at this:

Athlon
Duron
Opteron
Celeron
Xeon
Radeon

Just when we get a good name, like the unique Parhelia, the product shows mediocre perfomance. ;)
OK, that was my rant.

What names would you assign to your own brand of processor/video cards/etc?
I would like them to be called just like BMW's or Mercedes cars ... letters and numbers, that can be understood in any language.

Kuk :)

Well, at least they are more creative than Pentium, Pentium MMX, Pentium 2, Pentium 3, Pentium 4, Geforce, Geforce 2, Geforce 3, Geforce 4, ect.

I think most of the names are good. For instance, I like very much the TMs Pentuim, Celeron, Radeon, Geforce.

I think that Athlon and Duron and Opteron could sound better. I'd be delighted if desktop Hammer Athlon was sold under the TM of Hammer CPU, better with a sledgehammer logo on the packaging.

Buahahahahahahahahaha ...
If I had my way, I would call everything Kuk ... and if the swedes, norwegians, south-africans, vietnamese or the korean had problems with that, they would just have to shove it up their nostrils. ;)

LOL ...

I think AMD should have named the new chipsets like the new harley davidson's.

The A-Rod.

Although people might confuse the CPU with MLB. Mediocre performance at an outrageous price.

Years ago, a columnist (Dvorak, I think) complained about the boring names of computer systems: NextSTEP... who wants a computer that STEPS, for cryin' out loud!?

He begged manufacturers for better product names: "Name your next product the KickassBlaster (TM). You'll sell millions of 'em!"

Instead we get things like Optiplex GXa. Yawn.

You must not understand the importance of brand/name value - every company strives to have product like the pentinum or the geforce .. a product name that people are familar with .... this is not only limited to the computer stuff ... game consoles and even shoes do the same ...

my 2cents,
