Yes it's possible with GOOD sticks (these are the newest revision Dom GTs) and the right motherboard. This is also at 211 MHz BCLK! (211x20) - the clock is off about 500kHz so 211 keeps me above 4.2GHz - slightly.

This is an oddball board. The Asus P6T6 WS Pro. It has a PCI-X bridge. I'm using this because I have different hardware requirements than most folks. It also has to be 24/7 stable at 100% load doing encoding too! Bad output might as well be NO output. AND to top it off I cannot use water cooling due to ship rules...

It's been a long haul with these (Asus) boards. The P6T6 WS Pro, P6T6 WS Revolution, and P6T7 Supercomputer have BIOSes that will throttle your turbo on and off 100's of times a second up to the point where it does not exist under extreme loads such as Linpack. It's based on a combination of things - power draw of the CPU as well as core temperature. Now I understand they do have BIOSes that actually allow this feature to be turned OFF. I don't have one for THIS board at this time, however. :(

So to maintain best speed and stability I've chosen to run at 20X with a BCLK of 211. Memory timings are tighter (CAS7 at 1T with all slots filled!). It's quite stable too! Nothing will crash it either. I was given a Megahalems Shadow cooler last month and mounted it - mid 30's idle high 70's heavy load (Linpack 11GB/50pass) with a pair of 1800RPM Gentle Typhoons wire tied securely to it. Over all very happy. (this is on a W3520 that was tested ashore and cherry picked for me - tested on some crappy self destructing DFI board but they did get it to run LinX 0.6.1 at 245x21 with 1.45V using dry ice!)

Oh I had a 5870 but put my 285 back in because of weird things going on with toolbars in pro AV tools we use every day. NFS Shift runs damn nice on that 5870 though and it's quiet! I cannot wait for Nvidia's new GPU - hurry up and release something already!

Yeah go ahead and play with those memory timings.

Not sure about the numbers on this program. The first set isn't so much faster but the second set is! (on yours) I have a Logitech G15 with CPU meter and notice when encoding the second set total CPU was much higher so that test is probably flying on yours because of the extra cores.

You have to wonder how many physical cores they are going to stop at under the hood - I mean the thing is going to be able to cook meals! High watt density = crazy current which you have when vcore is dropped. Breakthroughs cannot defeat Mr. Ohm. Pretty soon we'll need superconducting sockets to deliver the power! :)

p.s. Also notice the revision of NB guys!

Everyone else is using the older 12. Does it mean it overclocks better? I dunno. But it works and that's all that matters to me!

How sensitive are they to degrading with higher volts though?
One thing we found with 45nm Penryns is once you hit 1.4V you're entering uncharted waters.
