TEC Cooling question

so anyway... I have a giant peltier i want to use to cool stuff (not cpus) anyway.. the problem is its 5cm x 5cm for dimensions. I have a SLK900U i want to attach to it, but the contact area on the base is like 5cm x 3cm. Am i going to run into trouble if some of the peltier hangs off hte side of the base? If so, can someone reccommend to me a good heatsink with a large surface area base that could accomodate the entire surface area of the peltier?

Most people use cold plates (1/4 - 1/2 inch thick plates of copper) anyway, you could just sandwich the peltier (TEC) between two of these plates and then mount the heatsink to the hot plate. The plates should be screwed together at least at the 4 corners as peltiers work better with good pressure on both surfaces. (like 3 times more than an average clip can provide - enough to crush a core usually).

Obviously your mobo mounting is going to be different, unless you can manage to make the holes in the plates line up with the mobo holes and the heatsink mounting holes on the heatsink.

You probably know of the dangers of TEC's so I won't include the standard disclaimer that they are component killers..........

its not being used to cool a cpu core... and i cant see how adding a heat plate would help any.. cuz the heat plate still has to disipate it into the heat sink.. and not all of the heat plate would touch the heatsink either. I was planning on having it sandwiched rather tight by the standard mounting screws that come with the slk (spring loaded)
