Tears For Fears - "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"

I've always liked this song and the video always intrigued me. Is it just a bunch of mindless clips or is there some deeper meaning to the visual part of the video.

I see a kid dressed as a cowboy.
A glider and a cesana (that caught my eye)
Two man dancing
ATVs in the desert.
Driving a british sports car
A phone call at a phone booth

or did I do too many drugs in the seventies

A lot of music videos end up detracting from the song. Once in awhile I'll hear a song and get an impression/inspiration from it, then see the music video and everything I thought about the song just kinda deflates into disappoint.

This will answer all your questions.

Nigel Dick got complaints that the Shout video would not play well in America. His next video needed to play well in America so he decided to make the video as American as possible. Thus explains the cowboy, sports car, and the other shots.

This is clearly not one of those times. Inspirational is an understatement.

I did well on the old SingStar with this song. It was one of the ones where I had a prayer against my musician daughter.

I can assure you fans take things to levels authors or artists never intended.

Yes. Music videos have a way of sucking the life from a song. Probably because they diminish a song to a mere soundtrack - and who likes listening to soundtracks?

I've always hated videos for music. Totally takes away my interpretation. Unless is videos like "take on me" where its just a cool factor.

Man I always thought that was Roland doing the lead singing. Had no idea Curt's voice was that good.

The plane obviously represents turning your back on Mother Nature.

Back then there weren't cell phones, but you can tell by the look in his eyes that it was a call to his broker to buy more Apple stock.

Those ATV, dirt bike riders, little kid and 2 dudes overheating as they danced in the desert clearly wanted to grow up to rule the world.

It's funny TfF have said they hated all their old work and feel like none of it made any sense.
