After the problems with Orbit, etc in October, everyone splitting off into different projects in November, and the sheer excitement and massive success of the f@h and PG races, I think the TeAm could now do with deciding what single project to focus mainly on in Feb/March.

As this is a democracy, please use this thread to nominate one project. Feel free to let me know any other ideas you may have too. :)

I'll start by mentioning that the team is only in 130th place in World Community Grid so I think that should be in the poll. Then again there are several newer projects where we could relatively quickly make a huge leap forward, it is up to you.

I'll make a poll once we have about 5-10 projects listed here.

RNA World - good science - long WUs and no check-points
Quantum Fire - supposed to return sometime soon with production WUs instead of QMC WUs
EDGES@Home - doing some plasma/fusion WUs.

Thanks RT, I have added those to the list. Do you happen to know when Quantum Fire will have WUs? By March? If not I'd be tempted to exclude it on that basis until we know. I know Edges seems to have plenty of short WUs, but I'm not running RNA World currently.

The Quantum Fire site has been down for the duration. No news at all.

I'm expecting it to come back by the end of Feb. (WAG)

Here's an interesting one for you to have a look at: DistrGen (Distributed Rainbow Table Generator) only has 5 members supporting it, and my first 500 points were responsible for 53.22% of the TeAm's output! LoL

It's some kind of cryptographic hash key security testing and generation and they share their methods so people can improve their security.

"The goal of FreeRainbowTables.com is to give the worlds security experts the best tools available for detecting weak hashes. This can help them to force the developers to use more secure methods of password protection."

They've been releasing RNA WUs from microorganisms lately so the RAM requirements are much lower and the crunch time is much shorter (knock on wood). We are getting closer to a TeAm 1 million milestone!!

Does this support GPUs or CPUs only? I might hop into this if there's GPU support

Unfortunately not :(

DistrRTgen currently has the following applications...

I've been reading up on World Community Grid and I think that's something I'd like crunch.

Interesting, tried to join DistTRgen and I get this message when attempting to download work units:

"Message from server: Tasks won't finish in time: BOINC runs 80.8% of the time; computation is enabled 94.9% of that"

Shucks

somethingsketchy Please look at this and other similar threads. It may help you find the answer your are looking for. I also remember some projects needing Java - it might be a good idea to make sure it is up-to-date on all your BOINC clients' OS's.

TeaM I'm waiting for a few more project suggestions for projects before I start the poll (max 10).
Would you all be up for a 15th Feb - 1st March challenge in the elected project?

Shall I run the poll now with the projects listed or are there any more that you would like to include?

It looks like WCG is a runaway success already. I'm not sure how you want to do it, but I'm going to put my BOINC machines on WCG from now on until we have another poll, possibly change project in March?

Happy Crunching

I'll move some crunchers there too, I'll wait until they are finished with the downloaded WUs other projects though ...

Currently setting up my 1055T to try some WCG. Question... which team do I join? Anandtech or Team Anandtech?

Cool. I did a search for 'Anandtech' and found two results. Looks like I joined the correct team.

I have no idea what's happening but my computer has blue screened twice since starting WCG this morning. I went to check 'Results Status' and I counted 38 errors, some with zero CPU time. This computer (1055T) has proven itself stable running F@H 24/7 during the holiday race. Might have to stress test it again to see if it's hardware or software.

Errors include WUs from:

Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy - Phase 2
Help Fight Childhood Cancer
Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2
Computing for Clean Water
Help Conquer Cancer

Does WCG dislike AMD hardware?
