I played for about 3 hours last night. I had a blast! It was so fun once I got the hang of the maps!

Protip: Engineers totally dominate, but the wrangler is a must. Also, I pick up and move my sentury gun at least 15 times a game. Be mobile. Finally, pick up your sentury, and run to meet the sentury buster bomb AWAY from your 'base.' I saw some nitwits just standing there watching their stuff get blown away!

wow wtf. why does my machine lag like crazy every time a round starts? tf2 use to run like butter

probably something wrong with your machine, its a game from 2007;)

Thank goodness you did all your research before posting something that's incorrect, I know you wouldn't want to do that and look stupid or whatever.

You can pay the $1.99 for a ticket that lets you join special servers and get items, you can play the mode by itself for free on any non-Mann vs. Machine server.

That said, I thought I might give it a whirl and as soon as I saw the queue was 27 mins long I quite and just played a normal game.

1.99 is for a voucher that gives random drops to every teammate, not just yourself, its a buddies gift, regular ticket is 99cents, random drop item for y ou only. reason to pay for mann server bot match is because you feel like throwing a few bucks at the developer for their work, and of course because at the end of successful mission you get a strange machine weapon, basically a strange version of a random weapon like a scattergun or what not, sometimes silver, sometimes gold. you only lose your ticket once you beat it.

boot camp is free play, the button is right beside the mann server play, its not that complicated people...

the mode is interesting, makes some of the lesser used weapons like the brass beast kind of useful. stuff like milk/jarate work well on hoards as well..

once you choose weapons on round one, stick with them because your upgrades are attached to those weapons...

kritz canteen works with the sentry gun, making it shoot twice as fast!

server lock kinda makes sense in a way, if your party of 5 joins a server with 5 slots empty and someone just loads in faster than one of your friends using the old server browser to get in that would suck. on the other hand they need a way to have invites work so if your friend crashes out, they can get back in. server waits are meh, it can say 30 minutes left and in 10 minutes you got a game... so you never know.

so yea the roll out was a little botched.

I managed to be with a really good team last night. We beat wave after wave game after game. The team lineup was: 2 engineers, 1 heavy, 1 medic, 1 scout. I think the scout kept switching back and forth with pyro though.

I think it had more to do with the team members not being dumbasses than anything else. It appeared that the other 4 I was playing with were all friends.

With lots of trials before hand, I noticed that the engineer does best if sentry is put right in the thick of the battle. Every game where I tried sitting back at a defensive position to wait, the round was lost quickly. In games where I had my dispenser right out where my team could use it and my sentry right at the battle, things went smooth.

When a sentry buster came out I would just pick up my dispenser and retreat a little ways, drop the dispenser then rebuild my sentry next to it quickly. Worked quite well most of the time. I havn't tried actually picking up the sentry. I fear that the sentry buster will just follow me around until I drop it. Maybe somebody can verify how this works.

Sentry buster doesn't follow you when you pick it up, at least it never did for me, though you might have to wait to pick it up after it starts to 'crouch' to blow possibly.

Also I had fun playing it last night, I wish I had a group of 6 to play with instead of a group of 3 though.

Also MvM has been horrendously laggy for me. Constantly seeing enemies bounce back and forth, hit registry failing, sound effects not firing, and even the screen straight up freezing for a few seconds. The issues do seem isolated to the beginning of the round (or beginning of the maps perhaps?) for me though and once the enemies spread out a bit it seems to improve.

You can save the sentry. Once the buster "arms" you have a few seconds before it blows up. You have the beeping noise as a sound cue as well. There's an achievement for successfully moving your sentry in this manner.

I think I went through 4 or 5 different servers where the lag was ridiculous like this making the game almost unplayable. Eventually I stumbled upon a good one. Hopefully it's not 1 in a 100 chance of a good server. I'll find out if I play tonight.

Again, the sentury buster follows the sentury whether it is on the ground or you are holding it.

Once the SB gets close, pick up your sentury and RETREAT away from your base. Then run and bump into the SB while still carrying your sentury and that will trigger the bomb.

Obviously, it's important to retreat to arm the SB because it's less likely you'll run into other bad guys.

Mann Up mode is a lot harder than Boot Camp. Played a bit this past weekend, it's fun but I don't see a ton of staying power.

have you been trying to join the server manually?

Well I did but those never worked. I tried the normal way and it's always a 30+ minute wait, and I have no intention of waiting around that long to begin playing a game.

I finally got on a few games using "play coop" method and it still took 10-15 min to join a game.

Sometimes it'd give me the "tried connecting 4 times" crap.

I hope it gets better b/c I am not interested in waiting more than 5 min to join a game.

I've been able to play quit a bit. I've beaten Normal Mode several times, but have only gotten 5 out of 6 levels on Advanced Mode. A lot of it has to do with teammates and if they're screwing around or not.

Seems that MvM has really marginalized the Sniper and the Spy. They just can't do much.

you're doing it wrong.

Sniper is one of the best force multipliers:
-sleeper rifle with charge speed/reload speed/penetration
-jarate with slowdown and faster recharge

line up hordes and multi damage while giving your teamates mini crits. jar on giants and they slow to a crawl, if you max out recharge you can solo sentry busters. only downside is you are useless against tank.

Spy is an advanced strategy choice:
-no specific load out required.

spy spends no money on upgrades in the early rounds and focuses only on grabbing money behind enemy lines while team maintains containment in killbox. you can sapp any giants or busters for minor slowdown and backstab botsnipers so your teammates dont have to break off of main position.
the big trick is not spending money until the harder waves. you then change class and have full money to max out as an extra engy or heavy for DPS.

Scout is even more important when it comes to maxing out money drops:
-madmilk with slow down
-fan of war while uber canteen.

run around bot spawns and collect all money while team maintains killbox. use uber to distract bots and hit them with fanOwar gives mini crits to team. a good team will focus fire on marked enemy and allow you to multi melee. milk allows you to shoot and maintain health. only downside is you burn thru canteens and have to replenish often, so you lose out on upgrade money. do it right and the enemy never even fires a bullet at the rest of the team.

the main thing is you should only have 1 scout or 1 sniper as mini crit generator, while the 5 others focus on damage classes. 2 scouts is a waste and leaves you very narrow margin during multi tank wave.

ive finished advanced 4 times on decoy.
