TeAm Break Room - August 11-18

Hm, this is an intresting discussion, Freewolf and Smoke.
But: apparently not an ethical one ... or are the "right" or the "wrong" better discussed in a coffee-room?

I have a number of comps of different ages and capacities in my home. All belong to me (i.e. I have at some time or an other paid my money for them). They are used by my kids, as servers, as home theater machines, as music machines, one controls ventialtion, heat etc, etc. Am I a mini team ([TA]Petrusbro's) or am I an individual? Is 15 processors (two of my comps have dual processors) and - if i calculate correctly, (since two other machines have P4) - 17 processes going on. (I just love BOINC for this!) something that can not be counted as Individual? I want those results recognized as mine.
Hmmmm.
I wonder, if IP-number would be a good denominator for categorizing? It is not very hard to read that off the comp...

Question: I noticed "Find-A-Drug" reports "nodes". Would a P4 w/HT count as one node or two?

How about some bagels and cream cheese? 🙂
The hot water is the spigot on the left. The hot chocolate machine will be installed later this morning.

Now everybody be sure and put your paper cups and napkins in the trash can. This is "our" place and we've got to keep it clean. 😀

What else?

Oh, I slipped this request by the ole man.

"Mr. Boss,

There is a definite need for fermented beverages in the "Break Room". Do I have your permission to requisition one?"

he, he, he

The draft cabinet is coming in this afternoon. 😀

Would a draft cabinet also be considered a kegerator? because this place definitely needs a few of those.

One nice thing about Find a Drug is you can also set it up as a server and have several machines running off if it. Some of the stats site can be set up to report the number of cpu's running off of that one node. But to answer your question that would be one node with one id number.

It appears, as I expected, this will be a most difficult idea to implement.

/smoke's bottom lip sticks out/ 🙁

Bit of news about the new stats server that I'm throwing together... I bought one of the Dell SC420 base configuration servers a month or so ago when they were dirt-cheap.. 2.5g Celeron, 512 DDR2, 160g SATA... it looks like I've managed to acquire a P4 3.2g w/HT and 1g of dual channel DDR2 ECC for around $175... I don't need that big an HD in there and want to get a pair of smaller drives (maybe 80g) so that I can mirror, or at least back up the main drive so that I have a swappable drive should the main drive crap out. Add to that the SBE 2003 that Swanny donated, and things are really coming together! I'll be putting the latest & greatest Apache, PHP, MySQL to round it out... hoping to have it up in parallel within a month or so (my time to work on this is really limited)... I'll give folks the IP when it's set up so you can hit on it a bit.

That said, serve me up a frosty one! Or is this place self-server? 😀

All true, Freewolf, but I just can't think of any other way to categorize results beyond the number of computers. Any ideas on how we could?

Can't say that I can but then again crunching is what I do best not thinking. My silly brain thinks as long as it is for the TeAm that is all that matters to me.
 Great answer Jim 😛

LOL I saw that post in fs/ft Geoffs lol it was a great deal 🙂

As fer serving yourself just hit the replicator that smoke just got installed and your done 😛

I only have 6 puters or as fad would see it 9 nodes...that may change soon lol

Well, I have a beer in one hand and the arm around the receptionist - a cool smallish hot blond babe - and enjoy the view. Hey Smoke, where ist the .... room? Was it left or right through the hallway? 😉

Bye, mates! see you tomorrow ... 😉

LOL the massage room is down the hall, pull the lamp above the door, enter the hidden passage, follow the long passage down till you reach the dead end, on the wall is a picture, pull on the left side and you will see a keypad, enter 2039 and the door will open. You are finally there.

Now each of you jump on a computer and disable the screen saver, set priority to "right now" and save and exit (not the room the app 😉 )

Where you go and what you do after this is soley up to you. Please turn off the lights when you leave as this saves on the cameras' batteries 😛

What does a nice girl do before kissing and ... ?
1. She hangs the guy's coat over the door handle so the key hole is covered.
2. She hangs the guy's T-shirt over the first camera.
3. She hangs her own coat over the second camera.
4. She turns the lamps so that they shine into the remaining cameras' lenses and thus they get blinded and in this way also provides the room with romantic lighting ...
5. Then the guy checks his with his Palm all wireless connections and jams them. 😛
All is well. The privacy is protected. You can look at your comps and watch Atom Film.

Edit: Smiley corrected.

The NFL team nearest me stinks.

I need to start pulling for somebody else. :|

I got back from Canada yesterday and moved into the dorm room today at college. Naturally, I'll be totally freakin busy for a while, but hopefully will be able to make time to stop by on occasion. 🙂

<-- goes to grab some soda. 😛

Enjoy college, Josh.
My "higher" education was a mixed bag - with some very nice and some not so nice episodes; but I still remember all of them fondly. 😉
Just remember, the human mind is wonderful, it remembers the nice episodes much better than the bad ones; and it is more from the bad ones we (hmm at least I) learned most, so that is good 😀, and worth to remember, since learning is good.
On the other hand, the really important stuff I learned before college, even before high school, and the learning capacity was greatest just after being born... 😉

...

OK have you had enough of the ... hmmmm ... advice? Enjoy college Josh, and do not forget to have fun too!

/me plops down on the sofa, opens an ice cold Michelob, and relaxes.

I think I'm just going to chill for a bit, all that discussion in the "13 students" thread is wearing me out. 😉

😀

/ me joining you after a day in the basement cleaning up the mess the plumbers left when exchanging the 32 years old waterheater, I take a sam Adams though ...

Cheers RaySun2Be!

I watching the PGA.

Did I tell you all the story of when I was on my university's golf team?
😀

😛 lol

Never heard about your golfing days in college, Smoke. Tell us more. 😀

Oh, and pass me another beer. Thanks. 😀

that was back in the days when woods was really wood.

They are not made of wood anymore? 😕

EDIT: The last time I golfed, I distinctly remember them being wood!

Oh good, a new audience. lol

When I was a freshman, I was the #6 ranked player on our golf team. We were not one of the top ranked golf teams in the country but we competed against other universities that were. Our coach would use a devious strategy when we would play the likes of Memphis State and Houston. :Q

Normally you'd put your #1 vs their #1 and so on down the line. When we played the power house top ranked teams, our coach would submit our line-up in reverse order. Our #6 (me during my freshman year) would play their #1, our #5 vs their #2, and so on. This was done in an effort to avoid a complete skunking. The hope was that our #1 and #2 players might win their matches against the other schools' #6 and #5. Pathetic, right! lol

The day I'll always remember is when we played a match one weekend against Memphis State. My school only won 1 point (1 match) ... guess who won that point. 😀

That was my freshman year's greatest moment in golf.

PS: I ended the year just as I started ... #6 on the team.

/but hey ... don't laugh, at least I made the team and got a letter/ 😛

The year: 1958 🙂
