<< accept your defeat, DSLR rocks. >>

I didn't notice this earlier, but you should let DSLR know that it is they who will be accepting defeat. The members of this forum are rallying and coming to defend the honor of the Anandtech forums by joining this team. One of the things that DSLR doesn't want you to know is that even though at this moment they are winning in the race (by about 200 WUs) We are winning the war. Many new members have joined with existing work that doesn't count for this race, but counts for the totals. People like you Huzordaddy have joined to increase the overall lead we have on DSLR. Also old members have returned to help us increase this lead also.

For everyone that joins whether they bring existing work or not, we are increasing our production levels! As this race has carried on, we have been able to rebound from their heavy hitters quicker and quicker. We need you to help us bury them!

We now have IBM between us and DSLR in the overall standings and soon with your help we will have Microsoft, Intel and the Planetary Society between us also!

Join the TeAm, the winning TeAm 😀

Hello Techie333
This should help you get on the Anandtech team.
Go Here to get your password sent to you.
Then Here to join TeAm Anandtech.

And in answer to your other question and that one of renfield33.

When your computer is on and you are not using it or say just reading a web page you have already pulled, your cpu will pretty much go idle. It is during this time that the seti client will start working on the work unit it is currently processing. If you start working on your computer or playing a game it will allow that to take over and then start working again when it is under little or no load. It does all of this in the background so you shouldn't have to do anything. If your computer is not on a dedicated connection you will want to remove the check in the box that says "Auto Transmit" on the setidriver screen and click the "Save Config" button so it will not try to upload completed work units while your not on the internet. Then you will need to manually transmit the work unit(s) when you connect to the internet. If the satellite next to your clock is yellow that means it has completed a work unit and is ready to transmit it to seti so double click the satellite icon next to your clock then click on ?Transmit? in the setidriver screen and let it upload the completed work unit.
I am running a P3 866 so I select desired cache size as 8 so it will maintain 8 work units at all times. If you have completed two or three when you connect to the internet and select transmit the client will upload the completed work units and then download enough to keep the cache at the size you specify.
The progress bar in the setidriver window will tell you were how far along it is on the work unit it is processing.
The seti client works best on machines that are always on but if you need to turn your computer off at night it will pick right back up were it stopped!

If you have any other questions PM me or just drop in the DC forum and ask. You can bet you will get all the help you need!

Thanks for joining the race!

If you are using hotmail, check your junk mail folder. Hotmail classifies mail from Berkeley and throws it in your trash folder. If you don't see it there, check in your options for the junk mail deletion and set it for delay. If it has been set for that, you will have to request your password again.

If you still have problems getting your password, let us know and we will be glad to help 😀

Welcome aboard 😀

Nightshift bump! 🙂

Thanks for joining guys and gals...you've made a great difference! 🙂

We need more...they are powerful and could easily trash us....so, with that in mind...

more...more...more! 🙂

Welcome to the TeAm ...

This is all pretty ridiculous to me. If you want something *valuable* to put your spare cpu cycles on, try members.ud.com. Finding a cure for cancer is infinitely more worthwhile than searching for something that, IMO, doesn't exist. I started this one just a few days ago along with several of my friends and it's been a lot of fun so far. Yes, there is a Team AnandTech there too!

I haven't read anything yet that says what the big deal is about winning this race. So what if AT wins? So what if DSLR wins? Is this a bragging-rights thing? Someone please enlighten me.

It's a fun thing. Using your spare CPU cycles doesn't necessarily have to be searching for a cure for cancer, it can also be an enjoyable passtime. Winning the race is somewhat about bragging rights, since DSLR is always talking about how much better they are than us, but it's also quite exciting, it's been very close the whole way so far, kind of like watching a car race where the leaders are jockeying back and forth for position all the time and keep passing each other.

It may be ridiculous to you, but alot of people enjoy it. There are people who will criticize some or all the DC projects for various reasons. Many choose not to participate in the UD project because it is not clear who will benefit from this commercially. Some people say that the drug companies will use our computers and then charge us an arm and a leg for anything they get out of this. There are some people out there that criticize folding@home because they don't believe that folding proteins will lead to anything.

I say to all of them who cares what they think. Pick the project or projects (thats right alot of people in the DC forums run more than one project) that YOU like and do them.

So I guess what I am saying is that no one's opinion on this is more important than anyone elses. Just because someone isn't crunching for the project you like doesn't give you the right to label their project as not having value.

We are making up ground on them...but we really need your help too! 😀

Welcome to all the new members....stop by the DC forum and say hi and ask any questions....I know this thread is long and sometimes, questions get missed...but over in the DC forum...they'll get answered! 🙂

Come on and join! 😀
