Team AnandTech SETI - 1:00 PM CST Update, Friday, January 18, 2002

Data Files are Updated! 😀

Sorry for the delay today but I discovered just as I was about to publish the reports that I had used the "founders mode" and all of the reports would have divulged SETI NAMES of members who have chosen to keep their identities private. Therefore, I had to do another "data fetch" at 10 minutes after the hour...so today's numbers represent 24:10 since yesterday's update. 😱

Team AnandTech vs DSLR Team Starfire Race Standings
*Due the loss of Nothlit?s 30 Minute Chart I?ve decided to update this as often as possible ? You might want to create a shortcut. 😉

Attention: Internet Explorer 6.0 Users
There is a display problem when using IE 6.0. My reports are created using MS Office XP software. Viewing the web pages generated by MS Excel 2002 and Front Page 2002 with Internet Explorer 6.0 cause some rows to completely disappear and then distort the borders on some of the rows that do appear. I recently upgraded (again) to IE 6.0 to see if the problem had been fixed by Microsoft. The situation remains as previously reported. I have personally uninstalled IE 6.0 returning once again to IE 5.5 and the reports looks crystal clear with ?no? deformations or lost rows. I am truly sorry for the way these reports appear to those of you using IE 6.0. Next time I run into Bill G., I?ll tell him about it. 😉

Hey, Smokeball.

Anyone ever tell you that...oh...you....ROCK! (Despite the fact you almost SCREWED UP! 😀 )

Thanks again!

Crunch on!

<< Hey, Indy. congrats on the 3K! So...5K by next Friday, eh? Actually...probably even sooner!! 😀😀😀😀 >>

Maybe as early as Wednesday, probably Thursday if all goes well! 🙂

SmokeBall,

I was looking at your wonderful tables 😀 and I had a question:

What does it mean on your 7 day prediction when it has negative new units crunched?

😕

Hey Grant, 🙂

I'm not sure to what you are referring. Give me the member name or rank that has what you are talking about.

Oops, working on that answer. Be back in a little while. It gets involved. 😉

Oh yes, the #ed accounts.

Those can make life hard for a stats guy. I went over this a few days ago explaining how the New and Gone Members appear all screwed up when you use SetiTEAM for your data acquisition tool and have reports generated using that data.

First you have to understand how SetiTeam accounts for members with the same name.

We have Team AnandTech Members that share the same SETI NAME. Unlike the AnandTech Forums where there can only be one Eponymous, there is no such restriction on the choice of SETI NAMES. The following is a list of members with identical SETI NAMES:

Adam
Bler
Ben
Chris
Clstrfbc
Compudog
Dave
Dlago
Garion
Greg
Grim
Jfano
Journey360
Kami
Mark
Maverick
Mika
ModemMix
Nitemare
NoendINsight
REM
RSI
Sean
Slackin
Steveyoo97
Talon
Teddymines
Twioz
Vman
Xaxoqual
Xenon
ZF3361

Now most of these are in fact the same person with two accounts but there are several that are actually two different people.

Now get this! As of today?s report there were 39 Members with the same Exact Name. What was that name you wonder? BLANK

There were 39 Members whose names do not show up when you look at the Team AnandTech Stats Page.

SetiTeam, however, does not just report BLANK names. It assigns the duplicate named accounts numbers (#s). The duplicate with the most WUs gets #1 and the next most WUs gets #2 and so forth.
Now this leads to some strange looking things in reports. It is the BLANK duplicates that cause all the troubles. Let say the BLANK NAME member with the second most number of WUs decides to make his name public or gets around to putting in the check mark in the Seti@Home User Account Area that allows the world to see his SETI NAME. On the next report there appears a NEW MEMBER with whatever name old BLANK #2 wants to use. Now the old BLANK #3 will move up one space and get the assigned name of BLANK #2 and so on down the liine until it gets to the last BLANK NAME which in our little example gets BLANK #39. BLANK #40 shows up as GONE.

Now SetiTeam dutifully notes the changes to each of the # names and reports them by what they have changed since the day before. It does not account for the fact that yesterday?s #3 for example is today?s #2 and therefore gives a bogus number in the ?Relative? or ?NEW? category. Since the Old BLANK #3 has few WUs than the OLD BLANK #2, the net change for the day shows as a negative number.

And now finally you can see how some members get NEGATIVE NEW WUs credited to their accounts. You will notice this only happens to the #ed accounts. 🙂

Now I need to save this explanation to a file so I don?t have to construct it from scratch the next time this come up. 😀

So Grant, you really did make a very astute observation and the answer was not at all evident?.was it? 🙂

Thanks Smokeball!

I understood how TeAms could have a negative number, but was confused on how people could have
a negative number. I thought maybe SETI was subtracting WU's again.

However, your explaination makes more sense. 😉

Thanks again!

I love your stats! 😀
