Team Anandtech Public SETI Queues: Part IV

Poof

Diamond Member
In order to keep our sticky thread lean and mean and assist in the management of the stickness, I've created this new thread as TeAm Public SETI Queues Pt. IV. This will help make things easier for our friendly neighborhood Mod! 😀 Thanks!!!

As before, let me know about any changes here and I will edit to reflect them.

Some newbies have asked what the point of a queue is and I'll quote what I wrote in an earlier thread:

Over the past couple months, SETI has undergone either severe bandwidth restrictions (meaning that client machines had difficulty connecting directly to get new WUs) or outright outages (no one could connect).

Programs like Setiqueue allow users to "save for a rainy day" and have some extra WUs stored up in case no one can get new work from SETI. That way, the machine never goes idle. Meanwhile, the queue will do all the uploading and downloading of WUs for your machines.

It serves multiple purposes in that it can act as a server for alot of machines and is helpful for those behind restrictive firewalls (where the internal machines don't have outside internet access to SETI). It also allows some modicum of stats, where you can monitor how you're doing (especially when the SETI stats are down).

Remember, the aim is to not overload 1 or 2 queues to the point where they'll never be able to upload all the results and download new ones within a 24 hour period. I and others can try to monitor the situation and update the TeAm queue statuses.

NOTE - IF YOU WANT TO USE A QUEUE FOR THE FIRST TIME, PLEASE PM THE QUEUE OPERATOR FIRST. THAT PERSON WILL THEN MOVE WUs INTO YOUR NEW SUB-QUEUE AND LET YOU KNOW WHEN THAT PROCESS IS COMPLETE.

Now let's get out there and CRUNCH THOSE WUs!!! MORE MORE MORE!!!! 😀 😀 😀

Here's a list of other TeAm Proxies:

Confused

hey poof you rule 😀 while i'm posting, i shall tell you that my queue is now operating on port 80 - no need to edit my entry cos the DNS client does it all automatically 🙂 cheers, l8r

hey poof 🙂 due to a move to TACO, and the fact that i've discovered the noise of many fans in my room is keeping me up, the server (and hence the setiq) has been turned off for the time being, till an enclosure can be found. pls remove me from the list when u get a spare second, and the same to ?soni? on the queue polling scripty thing 🙂 cheers !

Take me off the list my brand new dualie went south again. Won't even load from CD to install an OS.

muttley

🙁

Sorry to hear that muttley... I know the feeling. Hope you can get it running again. 🙂

List is edited.

DHS.org cut me off today. I hadn't gotten around to making a donation, and they pushed up the date of removing accounts to yesterday.

I've since made a payment, and siren.2y.net should be back up by this evening.

EDIT: That was quick! Payment was received, and everything is back up and running.

Sorry about the brief downtime. 🙁

Checking in to let people know that the seti.scarieville.com SETIQ is still up and going strong without interuption. To all new and old members that have suffered through or will suffer through outages please take the advice and get yourself hooked up to one of the many TeAm SETIQ's listed here. Not only does it ensure you Wu's during outages it also provides a manner of tracking progress. ie; Daily Production Graph and other great features.

More More More and keep on crunching.

Sorry for the inturruption today, had a brief power outage and all is back to normal..... Crunch on. 😀

Again a reminder that being hooked up to a TeAm Q is a win/win for the TeAm and you the users, as long as we have access to Wu's we should be able to maintain our power. 🙂 UPDATE: Berkeley is down as of 10PM PST time.

Coolamundo!!! Thanks soni and thanks for the great queue status stats! (Mmmmmmmmmmm....stats) 😀

Just a quick note....I'll be going on vacation today and won't return until August 10th or 11th. The queue will remain ON and hopefully, there will be no problems. The Queue PC is also set to automatically TURN ON after a power outage, so hopefully there will be no problems again! 🙂

I won't have net access, so no looking in to check.......Stock an extra few WU's just in case! 😉

See you all on Saturday or Sunday! 🙂

I'm not sure if this is related (to the Cheating Topic) but it may be. I have been contacted by a member of BBR informing me that their team's Qs have had over 1500+ WUs uploaded by a mysterious IP Address: 177.get11.rb1.bel.nwlink.com

I have looked at their Qs and a lot of these "mysterious" WUs appear to be duplicates and have other errors.

I have had Confused help me check out our TeAm Qs and it does not appear we have gotten any similar uploads. I could not get to our primary Q, OrangeKids, so that one has not been checked yet. Anyone have any knowledge about this or can tell anything from the IP ADDRESS?

Smokeball - I'm not sure how OK's is setup but I would think that in order to have results uploaded, a subqueue with a few WUs would need to have been setup by the queue master??? I am still running an older version of Setiqueue so I don't know if the newer versions are more "pass-through" oriented than the older version. Meaning that BBR (lol - had to remember that they used to be DSL Reports) would have had to create a queue for that user to upload to and have the results accepted.... But then again, this may something that has changed with the newer versions... 😕
