what he did is NOT discipline. If the child is struggling in a area you help them and give them extra work to understand it. you don't call them names and hope that will get them to try harder. it will just have the opposite effect.

Isn't that what some of the asians do? "You are too dumb to go to high school". A lot of suicides happen around that point in peoples lives, I hear over there the rate for people put in that situation is quite a bit above the baseline.

Exactly.

Sometimes I worry about the posters here. Something tells me at least 1/5th of ATOT should not have any contact with children, ever.

And what's with the teacher using the excuse that he was trying to "relate" to his students? You don't "relate" by trying to act like a middle schooler and call people "loser". Act like a teacher, as a responsible adult. Was he trying to gain friends with the bullies in the class? Seriously, if that's his attitude, he has no business being a teacher.

Can you go a fuckin day without your blatant calculated racism showing?
It's really gotten old here.

He's been trolling for a while.

I like him otherwise, but the whole "I'm black", stereotyping, borderline-racist act needs to go. It's not funny and never has been.

While I agree with some of things Carlin says (we do need to inspire a little bit of competition in students if only to make them self motivated), name calling from a position of authority isn't the right way to do it. I had teachers joke about a number of students being "derelicts" but not on something that could be revisited or because we didn't do well on an assignment...mainly because we were being smart asses and rowdy during class.

it would be understandable if he was black and not a fat Indian.

I know he's Indian. He lives in the Bronx in a somewhat dangerous neighborhood, and he blends his (faked? not sure) racism with claiming that he's black, or at least that his brown skin makes him black...or something. I'm not sure how he justifies that, but its not even humorous. It would be tolerable if he stopped interjecting that crap into so many threads.

See Lady Gaga thread, this was posted just now:

Yea...but it's still a tossup. Do you take it from behind with Gaga, or do you take the 48% chance on catching Black herpes?

Someone start a poll. I can't decide.

See bolded. That's a troll remark, despite the recent thread on herpes.

I apologize for going off topic.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has noticed this.

Detroit still wins, the superintendent of the school board is illiterate. Look around, a few of his emails have been released. It took him 35 years to get his diploma from MSU, they finally waived the English competency exam that was required to graduate.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

<-- Wife is a 2nd grade teacher
That I don't have a whole lot of respect for elementary teachers. Great that they love their job or whatever, but they aren't the people I would classify as societies winners.

Not only that, but the kid is in the 6th grade. I know people here think we should all be told we are worthless daily, however, for a sixth grader that can be devastating. And what does it help? Nothing. Great, the kids think the teacher (the one that is supposed to be the adult) is great, but he gets there by destroying a child. You don't have to be an asshole to be liked by kids.

😕

Where would society's "winners" be if they didn't have elementary school teachers?

Everyone who does his or her (necessary) job faithfully is a "winner".
We'd all be screwed if we didn't have sanitation workers as well as doctors and engineers.

What kind of bullshit is that? Someone who teachers your kids is somehow a loser?

What kind of fucked up life have you had?

One were I garnered no respect for the imbeciles that were my elementary teachers. One were I have yet to gain any respect for people studying elementary education. One were I have no respect for public education in general.

Public Education did at least teach me the difference between "where" and "were".
Hard to pay attention when you don't respect them I suppose.

I think his self-education is so advanced that it is making his sarcasm indiscernible to us lowly lovers of public education 😀

Sucks for the kid but he's now ahead of the game when it comes to life lessons. He now knows that many adults are assholes and should be treated as such.

maybe your elementary school sucked when you were growing up. i learned very valuable lessons for later stages of my life from some of my elementary school education. it didn't mean much to me as a kid, but as i got older, i would remember some of the things and sayings i was taught as a kid and they made more sense. they planted seeds of knowledge/wisdom in my head.

had i not had the teachers i had in elementary school and had some lazy chumps teaching me, i don't think i'd have achieved nearly as much in life.

elementary school teachers definitely get a lot of respect... not only for teaching students, but for being able to handle 12-20 kids a day for most of their lives.
