Has anyone here done this before? I was thinking of trying it out for a year in Japan. I'm sick of my monotonous, crappy job, and all you really need is a Bachelor's Degree to be eligible. Most of the sponsor organizations cover your housing, and give you a monthly stipend. It could be interesting.

Have any of you considered participating in something like this?

I know friends who did it in Japan and Korea.

They seem to have enjoyed their 1 to 2 year experience.

Few things that I remember from them:
1. research the organization really well, call for references
2. have cash reserves. even though they cover your home airfare after the end of your contract, it's always good to have the cash to be able to leave on your own just in case the academy/institute goes bankrupt or gives you a bad deal once you actually get there.

My cousin applied to do the same in Japan and wasn't accepted. He has a BS is CS from Berkley. So while a BS qualifies you, doesn't ensure you will get accepted. I think it is still worth applying for. I think it would be a blast. You basically get paid to explore and discover a new country and culture.

I am in Japan and just got back from a english camp that was led by a acouple of english teachers..when Jet..and one other i didnt know.

I have had a few friends that have worked for JET. So far they have all liked it. I am seriously thinking about doing it..the only thing is that I dont really want to live in the middle of no where..and that could happen. You can REQUEST Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, or something but they dont HAVE to put you there. Naturually if you get put out of a city you have a lot of extra income to have a nice life..but its boring. If youlive in the city..your poor but damn..its a good time.

I am in tokyo right now..loving every moment of it...except missing a concert tonight to study cause i am sick.

Don't let those kids get behind you, wear loose pants to give yourself more warning. They have a little game over there they like to play...

^ Bumping an old thread rather than starting a new one

I'm seriously thinking about doing this next year. I submitted my resume yesterday, thinking I wouldn't be contacted b/c I have no experience, but I got an e-mail asking for a phone interview. Just curious to hear from others' experiences.

Anyone do this outside of Japan/Korea? e.g. Taiwan? Shanghai? Beijing?
